Wheres the Electricity!

My wife and I went in '94, it was very cold with the wind whipping off the lake. They were selling season passes for a discount. I wish we would have went on the carriage ride.I would go if they had it again
Y'all are forgetting one thing. Anytine CP is open it requires alot of labor. A good portion of CP's labor is college students, who may or may not be available to work at an event such as this. Most other parks, zoo's, etc. who do something of this nature are in a city with a large labor pool.

But this wouldn't be like running an amusement park in the middle of the summer. There are plenty of people (including a good number of CP summer seasonals, I'd bet) who would work.

I understand the problem with winter construction/maintenance, but I still think it's doable - without disrupting that work - with careful planning.

RideMan - A correction to your correction. The Columbus Zoo is located at the southeast corner of O'Shaughnessy Reservoir just north of the dam. The Scioto River flows into and out of the reservoir.

Yes, Staffing could be a problem. The Columbus Zoo is open 364 days a year.

Couldn't the Point work with charitable organizations to provide support and staff? I'm sure most food service operations and shops could run with a skeleton paid staff and volunteers, or even year-round management stepping in to supervise the volunteers; Cedar Point gets lowered labor costs and good PR, while the organizations get a donation. Such rides as may be open and perhaps games would need paid staff, I guess.
I'm begininng to wonder if maybe managers are not supposed to do work and just sit around doing nothing.  My manager at CP worked with us all the time just like he was one of us.  We had a crew with very few numbers...  Every night he was ready to go.  He got sick when we did and got downright dirty when we did.  I'm sure there are other managers at CP that are like this.  They can help work.  Also besides college students, there are a lot of people in Sandusky that work there.  I'm sure they would come back to work a holiday event.  A few thoughts.

Pete,

I think you need to direct those ideas to the appropriate CP people.  Tons of great suggestions!

Remember too, you wouldn't need near the staffing that you have to have during the normal operating season. Referring back to Hershey, only about half of the park is used and about a third of the rides. As far as season passes go, the perfect time to get one is before the change of the new year. It works out perfectly because it takes about five minutes and you're done; processing, photo id card and all.
