When I was leaving the park yesterday, I noticed some chaos cars on pallets near the blue streak turnaround.
Now these cars looked preatty bad....they looked like they have been sitting out for many years in the elements. They were coverd in dirt and leafs.
I assume that chaos has already been put together and tested due to the fact that the park opens in 2 days. They would have to have the ride certified before the park can open it to the public.
Do you think these are the chaos ride tubs from the michigan adveture chaos that had the accident?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I saw them this morning as well. By the afternoon, they had loaded most of them up and they were on a truck back by Mean Streak. They did look similar to those of Chaos, but were quite beat up and were several different colors, if I recall correctly.

They're still there as of this afternoon. My best guess is that after the problems they had with it last year, they will not be opening it on time if at all.
DBCP,
They were "beat up" because they hit the ground at a large rate of spead.

Wasn't Michigan's Adventure's Chaos yellow, purple and orange like Cedar Point's? These were a similar shape, but the finish had that metal look (like some Scramblers) and just had some colored graphics on them. The colors looked nothing like anything from a Chaos.

I assume that they are parting them out.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the MiAdv Chaos one of the very early models, with the 'cage' over the bottom of the tub, a completely different restraint design than that used on the Cedar Point ride?
I figure the Chaos incident is fair game now. Everybody eventually got out of that one OK. And presumably all the maintenance people at all the Cedar Fair parks now know what torque wrenches are for.

Cedar Point refitted their Chaos cars with manual levers to lock and release the restraints. The op has to visit each car to let the riders out. Maybe this is why C.P still has their ride when other parks have removed theirs.
Shame for Chance, Chaos was one of their most popular and best selling production rides. I really like the ride and always ride it whenever I see one.
Not a clue why there'd be spare chairs laying around or where they came from. I'll be there tomorrow and will try to check it out.

Yes, but the MiAdv ride, I thought, had the original design. See, Chaos was Chance's first ride with shoulder bars, and originally that's all it was going to have. Then they discovered that riders could kick the cross-brace behind the tub when the thing flipped over, so they added an aluminum 'door' to the front of the tub to keep the feet inside. This had a hinge on one side and a release knob on the other. When Chance started building the park model rides for Cedar Point and Valleyfair!, they switched to the configuration we see today with the shoulder bar and then the secondary that comes down from overhead. The only thing Cedar Point changed was the locking mechanism, not the design of the bar. My point is that MiAdv's ride had a different kind of bar on it.

At the bottom here you can see the Michigan's Adventure Chaos. The vehicles seen at Cedar Point have a similar design, but don't have a very curved bottom, the colors are different, and bare metal is exposed. They have been relocated behind the maintenance building that's within the center of Mean Streak. I really don't think they're from MiA.

Maybe Cedar Point aquired them from another park with a defunct Chaos ride.

Rollbacks - 1 - Opening Day 2005
Last TTD train of the night (6-23/24).
The ride from MA was sent to Chance in KS. There were a number of the cars that suffered a lot of damage. These are not those cars.
Did they ever release information to why the Chaos at MI's Adv. ever "went wild" and needed to be "lassoed".
Mechanical failure was blamed for the accident. More details can be found here:

The cars are now located in the middle of mean streak next to the spare gemini trains.

As I said when the incident happened...
Could someone explain to me how you can visually check the torque of a bolt, particularly a bolt subject to impact loads?
After the incident, Chance specified that parks may replace the capscrews under the hub with specific Rotabolts, which are a very neat product: a rotating cap on the top of the bolt indicates whether the bolt is properly torqued or not. So a Rotabolt can be checked for proper torque by simply attempting to spin the cap. For a normal bolt, though, the only way to check it is to put a torque wrench on the bolt and see if it breaks loose at the appropriate force (typically about 5 ft-lb below the assembly torque).
