Change in CP operating calendar?

If I remember correctly, the initial posting of CP's 2011 operating hours showed the park closed to the public on the Friday and Saturday following Labor Day. This has been the case in the recent past because the park was reserved for a private outing. The calendar now shows the park open to the public for the entire weekend. I'm assuming the private outing was canceled. Just an observation.

Yeah, the calendar has been that way for a couple months, IIRC. That's very cool. I'm wondering which of those days will be the most dead? I'm planning (as much as one can call it a 'plan' 2 months out) to go at least on Sunday, but Friday night is tempting too.

This has been the case for the last 4 years or so.

I really don't understand what Cedar Point is thinking here for Sept 9th & 10th, and as a business, they seem very stupid (making the same mistakes year after year!).

Based on the patterns of the last 4 years I've been following, I'm going to make an educated guess that they're going to announce that this is a Season Pass Appreciation weekend with special bonus ride time...with less than a week's notice.

So, let's get this straight... Company events are canceled; Cedar Point decides to re-open the park. They fail to push and advertise this weekend all year, so the general public mostly assumes it is still closed. To top it off, they give very little warning to the audience they're apparently catering to (if this becomes a SP Appreciation weekend)...such that they can't make plans in time to attend the event.

Lastly, Cedar Point is open from 6PM until 10PM on Friday. 4 hours! I have no clue how CP is planning on making money this day and wonder why the park bothered opening at all. Are people really going to be eating and playing games in the 4 hours that the park is open?

Regardless, I carved out this day long ago in my schedule, and I hope I'm right about random boni popping up along with late SPA Weekend notification. Thanks in advance, CP!

I think it's exactly the opposite. Only the fanboys pay attention to the operating calendar. Everyone else should usually safely assume that the park will be open each weekend. Obviously people should look into it before they go, but that's the way it is, in my mind.

I was excited that the park was open all of labor day weekend, although I truly hope it won't be a 40 minute wait for corkscrew! Has anyone had experience on labor day itself? I know that a day at Cedar Point is better than a day at work or school, but since the park opens at 10 AM and closes at 8 PM, I'd like to make sure I'm not wasting my time driving up. (90 min) Any suggestions?

I just got done with an 11 hr drive each way to the park. I don't care how bad the lines are, a 90 min drive is well worth it, especially if you have a season pass and aren't paying anything extra.

So, if only fanboys pay attention to the operating calendar, I suppose there will be a crowd of thousands that show up at 10AM for the park's opening on Friday, Sept 9th. They're going to be disappointed that they have to wait 8 hours for the park to open, especially after having possibly made a several-hour trip to the park.

Please tell me that the majority of the general public wouldn't be so dumb to make plans for a Cedar Point trip, and then just mindlessly travel without having looked at the park calendar. Judging by the last 4 years, people do indeed pay attention to the calendar and hours.

The park failing to get guests and announcing less than a week away that it's season pass appreciation is awesome for those that can make it. It means lines are nothing. Some of my best days at the park were the weekend after Labor day

I'll be there the 10th :)

Is there going to be a passholder appreciation day this year?

Where do you see that? I see a passholder special through sept 4. I don't see a passholder appreciation weekend?

Didn't look too closely at the title but on the main site page their is slides about Season Pass weekend bonus ride time.

Edit: Wow now I feel kind of dumb... Since I just sent an email asking about if the bring a friend discount user is able to participate in the bonus ride times.
Edit 2: now I feel less dumb because there is actually a bring a friend discount for those days! :)

Do you still believe this will be the case this year?

Season Pass Appreciation Day was completely empty last year. However, they announced it further into the week, didn't have it on the front page of their website, only had it for Sunday, didn't have $19.99 admission for friends, and the friends couldn't participate for early ride time. It will definitely be more crowded this year. How much, I cannot say.

According to CP's Facebook pass holders can bring multiple friends for the 19.99/person.

If I was in a position to go this weekend, I would be there. Unfortunately it's a little further away than I can go this weekend.

So much for passholder appreciation.
