Challenge Park -- Less Appealing?

I was talking with RideOn_17 about this and we were discussing how RipCord would be a lot better on the beach. I photoshopped in RipCord right between Wicked Twister and WindSeeker. I think it would get a lot more traffic there and it would be awesome to fly right over the lake. I also added a wild mouse upon request :)

I really do think this would work out great. This area of the park would be opened up even more, Ripcord would have an awesome view, and there'd still be enough room for a wild mouse coaster.

Rip Cord was originally suppose to be built over the lazy river in Soak City and facing out towards the beach. They figured out the wind would have been too much coming off the beach to operate it. So any other location alone the beach line would probably do the same. Personally I'd like to see all of Challenge Park moved up to the front along Blue Streak where the picnic pavilions are. That way everyone coming into the park sees the attractions but you can still keep it outside the park for those who want to participate without having to go into the park.

Question: Does Cedar Point own Ripcord? Or is it still owned by the manufacturer, and they, themselves, have to come to the park in order to disassemble/reassemble the ride? That might seem like a silly question, but I thought I read somewhere that amusement parks agree to install them, and a certain percentage of profit made from them goes to the manufacturer, and that's how they make their money.

I don't know the exact answer to your question as to who owns the physical structure. But it is somewhat of a lease situation, and Skycoaster does maintain a lot of control over the ride and its operations. They also do get a certain take of the profits. I know the flight suits must be returned to Skycoaster when they reach their end of life, but I'm not sure what arrangements exist regarding the structure itself.

Thank you Ralph Wiggum for taking the time to answer. I guess I was looking for the word "lease" as you have described. I'm curious about this now.

Rcoaster10, where would Wicked Twister's queue be if that wildmouse coaster is there? :) I love the idea of Ripcord being moved to somewhere along the beach, and I love the idea of the All Wheels Extreme Stadium being raised, but that area would be so cluttered. Now, the removal of Coral Courtyard would be cool for Ripcord, as riders soar over guests on the boardwalk to and from Breakers.

And where would another entertainment building be placed to make up for the loss of the stadium?

I couldn't care less (proper use of that phrase) about AWE. Personally, I think they should put back in the tank, and do another aquatic show with dolphins or orca's. It's been long enough. I think they could get a huge draw from it.

And, is it just me or is the ice skating show getting old? It's been 13-14 seasons. Perhaps, they could utilize that space for another style of show.

I just think that Live E. could use an Extreme Makeover: Cedar Point edition.

I think putting back dolphins and orcas would be a horrible idea. With all the controversy about Sea World and the movie Black Fish, CP would be protested by people. Sea World is loosing lots of people because of that movie. I'm sure CP wouldn't want to be a part of that.

Sea World isn't losing customers because of that movie. Sea World is losing customers because of the way they treat the animals.

Not all aquariums treat the animals that way.....

It's probably never going to happen, but with the loss of the Cleveland Sea World a marine mammal show would probably be extremely popular. Outside of Marineland in Niagara Falls Ontario, it would be unique to the entire region.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

SeaWorld isn't losing anyone. Their attendance is actually increasing (record breaking in the last quarter actually).

I still wouldn't want to put in an attraction like that though while the stigma still hangs around, even if it is believed to be a huge propaganda movie.

Not only that, but, while I thought the Oceana shows were cool when I was younger, AWE is cheaper and more cost effective. Acquiring dolphins, the trainers, care-takers, the tanks etc... would cost an arm & a leg. I don't know how I'd feel about the stadium disappearing, but RipCord there (if the wind didn't affect it) would be nice.

To cover the added expense, couldn't they do up close and personal encounters with the animals that other aquatic stadiums do?

Or would there not be enough demand for that?

^That I honestly have no clue. I couldn't see them going that way but I'm also not in charge, haha. It would be cool for sure, but I see AWE staying for the most part.

I just feel like LIVE E. has become stale. And I am not impressed with Luminosity at all. I think it's tooo showy and not enough family friendly. I've seen parts of the choreography that I would not want my kids seeing. And they have that show rated as family friendly.

Perhaps, I just need to go to college, get a degree in theatre, apply for a job at Cedar Point, and then I can have my way :-)

According to what we've been told, Luminosity is getting a complete overhaul for this season in terms of special effects, songs, dances, people, etc.

AWE is my favorite show, but who cares where the next entertainment building would go to replace it. It's clearly an old run down aquatic stadium, that's missing more than half of it's size to make room for WT's debut in 2002. Set up some shaded bleachers, ramps, and trampolines on the beach or something. It can't look any more generic than it does now (in my opinion at least)

Ooh...I like the trampoline idea. That would be a hit. But, could the risk of injury be a liability Cedar Point wouldn't be willing to take?

Well, the show already uses trampolines as well as the Skeleton Crew show on the Luminosity stage during Halloweekends.

Oh, I meant that I thought it would be cool if the park added trampolines for guest use.

But, you may be on to something there. Possibly a show built around trampolines, tumbling, gymnastics....That's something I'd be interested in.

Oh I see what you're saying. All apologies.
