Ceremony?

I was reading in the Wicked Twister forum, about how WT was topped then un-topped. I think it was Andrew that pointed out how it might have been un-topped for a ceremony. A year or two ago when Millennium Force was finished, was there any type of ceremony to celebrate its completion?

Yep.  I think the picture might still be on the CP page.  This is the picture they sent to Guinness http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/millennium/construction_archives/mftopping_antique.cfm

This is the same picture in color http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/millennium/construction_archives/mftoppingclose1.cfm

I remember following Monty Jasper's Diary's back then.  WT construction to me doesn't seem as exciting as MF's was.

And as I said...

"It may have never been connected. If the section doesn't hang right from the crane, it can apparently be difficult to get the sections to line up right so they can be bolted together."

I also agree with Jeff on this.  I don't think it was for a topping ceremony....

Why would you hoist something that weighs thousands of pounds 200 feet in the air if it was just for show?

...to make the people freak out...:)
I think they just wanted to make sure it was going to fit...It would suck if you got everything ready to go and you get it up there and it doesn't line up right or not fit properly...Just a precaution so they don't look dumb when they actually do it
I never said they untopped it for that. I said it could have be a possiblity. They could have brought it down for many reasons for all we know.

Not to get in a fight or anything, I know that on buildings they have un-topped something(not 200 or 300 feet in the air) for a ceremony. Heck I went to one(DIA in Detroit, for a expansion they un-topped the one last piece of steel, the next day had everyone out their, topped it off, and had a big free lunch inside the old part, which is why it is good to have the designer of the place in your family...).
