Cell Phones/Cameras on Rides

Has anyone else got stuck on rides because someone had their phone or camera out?

Yesterday, I got stuck on both Raptor and Iron Dragon for about ten minutes each because someone was messing with their phone or camera while the ride was moving. Maybe it's just me, but why do you really need your phone out while you're on a ride? Just enjoy the ride and your phone will be right there when it's over!

I understand that people want to take pictures on rides and stuff, but with them being so strict about it now, it's near impossible and it upsets people when they have to wait around for the car with the person who was messing with their device to come in. Just wondered if anyone else had been stopped on rides for that issue.

I've been stopped on lift hills a time or two, briefly, while ride ops told someone to put one away. Never for an extended period of time and never past a lift hill though. Where on the track were you stopped, and why did it take so long?

On Iron Dragon I was on the lift hill. We stopped right going up. And on Raptor we were on the platform still.

I'm not sure why it took so long, but on Iron Dragon, a worker did come up the stairs to the side of the track and talk to the person up near the front, probably telling them to put it away. On Raptor, they didn't move any trains until they were all lined up, I guess. I couldn't see behind me, but it did make the ride more fun since we had to wait. xD

We were waiting for GateKeeper yesterday morning and they had to stop the train on the lift hill because of a phone.

Does it? This was the first time it had ever happened to me and I was just really confused. xD But I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one who has had the same issue.

Was on Magnun after dark last october and after it went out and was coming back a group of about 6 teenage girls in front of us all got their phones out at the same time to take pics. It was quite obvious at night. At least 2 of the girls lost theirs as they went vipping past our heads. It is very unsafe to have loose articles out during and ride. I am suprised you don't here of more people getting hit by these objects. I know if I could have caught their phone as it was flying by it would have went directly into the 1st trash can I walked by.

If I was you, and caught the phone, I would have been like "here is your phone, It would have broken if I didn't catch it." *breaks phone, then hands it to her. "Bye"

People can be so inconsiderate. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one annoyed by this. I mean, seriously, your phone will be there when you get off the ride, you don't need to take it on.

I too am extremely annoyed by this. Whenever the person in front of me has their phone out it essentially ruins the ride for me because I am worried the whole ride if im going to get hit in the face by a phone. The general trend in society to capture every moment on camera is annoying to me also, it is impossible to really enjoy something if your watching it through a camera. Nobody just enjoys the moment they are in anymore.

I saw GK stopped because of some dude with a phone, the OP came up, took the phone, then left. soon after the ride went up the lift hill. Wonder if he got his phone back.

For those of you curious of what happens when you try to take video here is what happens. This is not mine but I stumbled upon it while on youtube one day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQkk3Vi3Lgo

Yesterday on Raptor all the trains were in the station and the ride didn't go for about 10 or 15 minutes because someone lost their hearing aid and had to look for it underneath the ride.

Some SF parks have stopped the practice of stopping the train on the lifthill and just let it go and when the rides over they have security there to escort the person out of the park or even have them arrested!

Still unsafe.... thats allowing the potential of one of those cameras or phones to hit someone in the head and cause any sort of industry. But that's why they're Six Flags...

On Gemini, a girl had her ipod out on the lift. The ride operators stopped the ride, confiscated the device and placed in the bin. A guest ran to the bin, stole the ipod and darted down the exit. The ride hosts called security whom talked to the ipod's owner.

^and when exactly did that happen?

2012: Gemini/Mean Streak
2013: Co-Team Leader of Gemini/Maverick on Halloweekends Fridays
2014: Ride Supervisor of Thunder Canyon/Skyride/GateKeeper on Halloweekends Fridays
2015: Ride Supervisor of Rougarou

To clarify, I now work rides at Six Flags and that's not how we deal with the situations at all...you can say what you want, but that is not how my park handles things. Safety is our top priority, and I work on a ride with a strict no loose article policy. Myself and the rest of our crew takes rider safety as our personal responsibility, no matter how stupid some people think the rules are.

Funny story, I was on MF yesterday and someone in the front of the train had their phone out but the ride OPs didn't see it. On the first drop his phone slipped out of his hand and the guy in front of me caught it.(We were in the back row) It was pretty awesome to see, and he gave the phone back once in the unload station.
