CedarPoint Railroad

There is a couple of pics in the Franciis' book. I've got photos of Maud L taken before it was restored (I believe from either TRAINS or RAILROAD magazine). I would suggest approaching the parks PR dept., if you haven't already. There are other pics out there. I've seen them. Since the CP&LE was originally a concession, the Roose family might have more. I haven't talked to them since George passed away. The Sandusky Register might be another source.

Thanks Dutchman, I never thought of that. If you can email them to me or post them. Anyone else?

I'll dig through my files for the pics, and try scanning them.We have a lot of projects going on here at the moment so it may take a little while to find them.

Has Judy K even been out yet this season? I rarely see George out except on holidays and weekends, yet he was running on a Monday in May. I Found that kind of odd.
I have not been to Cedar Point in the last few weeks, but I was wondering if Judy K was running this year. I have not seen it running in the six times I have been there. I was just wondering if anyone noticed what engines have been running...and if they have been running two of them. Thanks.
On Tuesday and Wednesday is was just Myron H. Every train I saw was full to capacity pretty much.

Another question about the railroad. What is up with the choice of Boneville theme and all the bones?

Judy is probably out due to some type of boiler work, but I'm not completely sure since I can't be there at all this year. As for today 7/9, we do have two train operation.

The choice of the Boneville themeing is something I never knew/ looked into either. It probably came about because of the old west themeing back when the line was in it's early years. Dutchman, you probably know.

If you get any good photos of George on your trip while he's in operation send them to me/post them please. *** Edited 7/9/2004 5:27:07 PM UTC by cp&le rr guy***

Yeah, I know a little about it. Back when the CP&LE first opened it wasn't owned by CP. It was a concession built and operated by George Roose. At that time there was no Frontiertown. A stunt show type train robbery was staged out on the far end of the loop. When the numbers came in on the ridership the first year plans were begun for the building of what would become Frontiertown. The train robbery was discontinued and ghost town scenes along the line outside of Frontiertown were constructed. In the days before the installation of the Giant Wheel and the Trail the direction of travel was alternated, so on one day you saw it before FT and the next after. Anyway the guy who did the animation was the person that maintained the dark rides, and skeletons is what he did. Even when he went out on his own you would be at a park and be able to recognize his work.
Can you imagine how awesome an update to the themeing of the Railroad could be if done today?

Whoa!

Just a thought, What if the skeletons were able to talk throughout Boneville.

ex. Fire scene- the man in the rocker saying, "DARN, the place is on fire again!"

Shoot out scene- have one of the men saying "your going down -some name-!" and then they fire.

When I worked there, there was an audio track for each of the scenes, mostly background sounds.

It's still there, just music/sounds though except on the "working on the railroad" scene with the singing.

I don't have a clue..but it is nice to know that people enjoy even some of the slowest rides.

I would like to have a battle of the wits with you...but you seem unprepared.

I noticed last week that George's whistle has changed to an awful one that sounded like one that was on Myron a year or two ago, just wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. I liked the old whistle on George better! I also have not seen Judy K running at all this season yet. *** Edited 8/3/2004 4:54:14 AM UTC by randinator***
When I worked there,#2,#5 and #22 had single note Dart whistles. #1,#3 and #4 had three note chime whistles.
Has anyone noticed Judy K running this year yet? Or that horrible new whistle they put on George? I can't believe they changed it.

Judy K has been out a few times. I rode it when I was there on Sunday.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Ok thanks. I was just wondering cause I havn't seen Judy running all year yet...Was George running? Or was it just Judy K and Myron? *** Edited 8/19/2004 5:08:34 AM UTC by randinator***
