I spoke with our food guy who went to KI and he said the difference is in the cooking procedure. they have always been cooked twice. But, now the pre-cook (at a low temp) is longer, about 12 minutes. And, the final cook (at a high temp) is shorter at about 2 minutes. The final cook would be done when you order. The first cook is to give you the soft interior while the 2nd cook will give you the crispy exterior. That's the theory anyway. I will be trying some this weekend.

Am I one of the few that don't really think CP's fries are anything special? I have had them quite a few times in the past 10 years or so and they have never been anything special to me. Other then the crappy zig-zag mass-produced fries, I think *any* fry with salt, malt vinegar and loads of ketchup would taste just fine :) I used to get them with the awesome garlic sauce they had, but not for the past three years or so after all the price increases.
If CP would cut the prices back down to $3.95ish I would get one every so often. But at the current $5+ prices, no thank you. Simply not worth it!

The regular fries were like in the $4.99 range I think when we bought them on Sunday. We used the buy one chili cheese and get one regular fries and 2 pops free on Saturday. I think we will be using it again many times this summer. Not a bad deal for 7 bucks.

Sorry, "writeband"="wristband". KI sells the cups with the $1.99 refills as well, but they also sell two $5 wristbands. One is for unlimited refills on that cup, and the other is for unlimited 20oz fountain drinks--which makes me wonder why anyone buys the $10 cup, but I digress.
I've never heard of CP having the wristbands, but they have been on-again and off-again at KI so I thought I'd ask.

Potato Patch fries are the soggiest, greasiest fries I have ever tasted, and I've given them 3 or 4 chances over several years. CP's fries, at their worst, were far superior IMHO.
Totally agree, I never understood why people made such a big deal about Kennywood's Potato Patch. It must be the toppings because the fries are just very average at best, CP's are far superior.
An interesting thing, Progressive Field has a couple of fresh cut french fry stands and they have a nice poster on the wall highlighting the history of fresh cut fries in the Cleveland area. Barardi's and Cedar Point are credited with starting the tradition in the Cleveland are by offering the fries at Cedar Point. Very nice write up. But, the Progressive Field fries not not nearly as good as the CP version, too greasy and soggy.
