Cedar Point Short Story

I have to write one more short story for my compisition class. I was thinking about making it about an amusement park type thing, not necessarily Cedar Point, but maybe the idea!! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a cool idea for a story... any suggestions would be great!! Thanks!!!

I'm not sure if you have ever read "Junnie B. Jones" books, but you could write a short story about a girl or boy around the age of 8 going to an amusement park the very first time.

It would be really cool if you can write the story through the eyes of the 8 year old. It may take some imagination and a trip to an amusement park to observe kids, but in the end it will be a quality story.

yeah, your home work kristi, im sorry but you just have to go to Cedar Point for research....

Oooooh, fiction-writing! I know! Write something about people Coming to Terms with things, and include swearing, alcohol, drugs, sex, angst and self-delusion to be "edgy" ... oh, wait, that was my fiction-writing class. Pretentious jerks.

Anyway. I wrote a short story set in an amusement park once, but it was awful. The characters were terribly drawn, and the conflict was muddled. It was all over the place plotwise, too. Really bad. Not even salvagable for anything. Some of the description was decent, though.

Kristi, here's my suggestion -- take a trite situation that is somewhat serious (murder investigation, simmering family strife, drunken barfight) and set it in an amusement park. Then write it in an oddball, vernacular style from the screwy and aloof main character's POV. Conceptual juxtapositions all over the place; that would be hilarious.

Make it about confronting fears (like heights) and make it about a kid trying to get up the nerve to ride a big coaster for the first time.
Make it a thriller about a high-tech amusement park near Las Vegas that gets blown up by terrorists.

Rogue, your post was pointless. You do not have to go to the park to do research on it, and especially when writing a story about it, if you know the park, would good does it do to visit it? duh.

How about something like R.L. Stine's The Beast. It's about a ghost that haunts the Beast at PKI. I can just imagine a story about haunted Mean Streak. It's a ghosttown back there anyway.

Ah, Kirk, my old friend, do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in space.

Try to include not just the rides, but the environment of the park, the smells, sights, and sounds. It's all a part of what makes Cedar Point, well, Cedar Point.

Reading this topic also reminded me of R.L. Stine's book.

Here's some fun stuff where members contributed 1 sentence at a time.

This one is from last off season, and is a lot longer.
