Cedar Point Ridership

Jason Hammond's avatar

I had a couple free hours this evening and though it might be interesting to graph the ridership of the coasters and a few other rides. I couldn't put everything on there because it would be too densly packed. The only coaster not on there is Jr. Gemini because CP does not list numbers for it on their site.

Interesting stuff.

What's up with that huge 2001 spike for Corkscrew? I could see it possibly spiking in '03, being right across from Dragster and all, but the actual numbers don't bear that out.

Thats really cool to see all layed out Jason. Very Awesome.

R.I.P. MrScott... You're greatly missed!!

I never looked into ridership of different rides. You made me want to take a look on the website for exact numbers. I'm pretty sure you got Sky Ride 2005/2006 mixed up. Its interesting how almost every ride had a decrease in ridership. Does anyone know if attendance was down compared to 2005? But anyways, I'm going to get Sky Ride on top of the graph for 2007. That is, weather permitting. Do the Sky Ride crew a favor when you are at the park, don't blow on the main midway. You'll make too much wind and shut us down!

I got the numbers from CP's website. If there is a discrepency, it is there. However, I am have been known to make a mistake of 2. If you see an error as compared to CP's site, let me know and I can easily fix it. Although the image is a bitmap, my base file is AutoCAD

There are a few rides that had such big spikes, I wondered about the accuracy myself.

That's just too easy. :)

2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

I've looked at those numbers for a few of the rides in the past. I noticed that many of them had a drop in ridership. I'm surprised that the trend is so extensive. It appears that overall ridership has dropped at a much higher percentage than the drop in attendance. That would indicated that people are are riding fewer times per visit. If true thats interesting because fewer riders should translate into shorter lines. Thus, a greater opportunity to get on those rides.

It would be interesting to investigate this in more detail. Good work Jason.

Well, adding air-gates and removing 2 trains from Gemini would explain their drop. The unnecessary seatbelts that have destroyed efficiency on Corkscrew don't help either.

It would be nice to present these numbers as relative to overall attendance, as others have pointed out.

What might explain the rather substantial, and temporary, drop in CP&LE RR ridership in 2001?

ADDED
Of course, for a better representation, you could sum the overall rides given by all of those listed, and list each ride's quantity as a percentage of the total.

The addition of thrill rides could also be spreading out the crouds.

I think the Train will go really HIGH this Coming Yr., to get everyone to the "MAVERICK" sitting down instead of Walking or Running everytime they will want to Ride the Coaster!!

That makes sense Jason, the the additional rides would spead out the riders.

^By any chance, are you from Ohio?

LOL.

What's really scary about LOL now is that any time I type it I can hear my WOW character laughing.

Well this graph answers all previous questions for the Mean Streak haters regarding when it will be torn down.... If it continues on the same curve, ridership will approach zero around 2013, thus Cedar Point will have no option but to replace it. (note: I felt my first post on these boards needed to reek with sarcasm)

Eh, that's not bad. With our help, you could be the best.

Brandon

I would expect Mean Streak ridership to increase due to its proximity to Maverick. I would imagine in the past many people did not want to go way back to MS if they were not going to Frontier Town for other reasons.

Maybe the website switched the CPLERR and Corkscrew numbers... either that or everyone just switched midways they were walking down that year. :)

Did anyone consider the fact the CP has slashed their hours over the years. The less the park is open the less time to get riders on rides
