Cedar Point Resorts

I'm going to be heading to the point next summer, and already I'm trying to get a rough idea on hotel costs. This is almost impossible, but understandable since it's only Nov/Dec and I'm not going until July next year.

Since I really can't find hotel rates right now I was hoping that someone on here might be able to help me. What I would like to know is this: Has anyone stayed at Breakers Express or Lighthouse point (in a cabin) around the first week of July, and if so, what was your nightly hotel cost, roughly? CP's website has such huge ranges in cost (ex. $61-$174) that it's hard to determine what I could possibly be paying, due to the huge difference between the low end and the high end.

If anyone can help, it would be very appreciated!

(P.S. Before I've stayed off point at typical hotel chains, like Comfort Inn, but if I can scrounge up the money, I would like to be able to stay on-point, or at least at the Express)

The following are all PDF files and are for last season. Expect rates to go up accordingly.

2004 Hotel Breakers rates

2004 Sandcastle Suites rates

2004 Lighthouse Point / Camper Village rates

2004 Breakers Express rates

If you're going in July, expect the upper end of any range.

I figured that was as good of an answer as I'd get, but it was expected based on when I want to go....Thanks Walt

If you are thinking about express, the earlier you book it, the better your rates can be. As it fills, the rate creeps upwards. You still won't be anywhere near the low end of the range for the first week of July (truly peak season), but you may be $10 or $20 below the top end rather than bumping right up against it.

In 2004, peak rates ran from June 17 - Aug 15 at Lighthouse Point. It was $245 + tax, the total with tax being $274.40 per night. The rates for next season haven't been pubished yet meaning they'll probably go up by at least $5-10 across the board. Even if they don't go up, they most certainly won't go down so expect to pay at least $275 per night anytime in July. (That's for a cottage or cabin as they're both the same rate.)

If I remember correctly, Express was going at about $114 during that period.

Thanks guys! I'll probably be seriously looking into the Express. I would love to do on-point, but it's just too expensive, at least for the other people I'm going with. I'm definitely will be booking in about February/1st week of March, so hopefully that's early enough.

Even though the Hotel Breakers is expensive, it is worth every penny just for the experience of staying on point. In October, I had a room on the 9th floor of the Tower building facing the park. I was looking out the window with my binoculars at TTD and couldn't believe it, but I happend to see my daughter getting ready to board the front row seat. It was one of those priceless moments! I also took some breathtaking photos of TTD and Millennium at sunset.

The best trip I have ever had involved staying at the Hotel Breakers. You can't beat the convenience of being able to go back to your room at any time of the day for whatever reason. Now, when I go, I will stay nowhere else.

Well, if I can convince the other people that I'm going with to pay about $200/person for hotel, then I'll be looking at Breakers also. I just need to wait until they get their 2005 rates up, which should be by the end of this month (I called the CP general info number). Then I can get a price quote.

On a side note, though, if I do stay at Express, I'll be getting a Season Parking Pass since I'll be there enough days to justify that purchase.

I imagine Express has a shuttle back and fourth to the park so you wouldnt need to pay for parking.

Staying on Point is definately cool, its a different feeling. Its nice. Unfortunatly now that I have a dog we wont be able to do it anymore, unless we leave her in a kennel or with a friend.

No, BE does not have a shuttle. Dogs ARE allowed in Camper Village, though.

CarrieS: Consider Lighthouse Point. The price split 6-8 ways makes it as affordable as multiple hotel rooms off-Point. Lighthouse is my favorite way to do the Point. You can do your own cooking there, too, saving even more money. It's really not that expensive--when you figure in the perks. Oh, and the 9 bucks per car parking fee is included in the price of your Cottage/Cabin. You can find more info here: http://resorts.cedarpoint.com/public/resorts/index.cfm?resort_id=6

I hope this info helps in your trip planning.

Dogs are allowed at Camper Village. Just keep in mind that they must always be on a leash and you can't leave them unattended at all. That means if everyone in your party plans on going to the park you will have to bring the dog to pet check for the day. We had a huge problem with that numerous times this past summer.

I too am looking into booking for next year. I'm patiently waiting for the rates to be posted. I must say from staying at Express last year it was a very nice hotel and well worth the stay. I paid approx $70 per night. Keep in mind this was in the middle of June though. They do have shuttel services to the point as well as discounts. I would refer it to people as well as stay again myself. Although, this year i am going a different route. I'm saving the cash and going for Breakers. My wife and myself want to see if it's worth the money as said above. If you book in Feb. or early March that should be pleanty early enough. Thats around when i should be booking mine also.

When did CP add a shuttle service to/from BE, TerryFriel? I know they have shuttle service for on-Point resort guests, but have been told many times that BE is not included.

MrScott

From the CP website:

"Breakers Express is located on Cedar Point Drive, just a 5-minute drive from Cedar Point. There is no fee for HOTEL PARKING, however there is a parking and toll fee assessed daily for Cedar Point, Soak City and the Cedar Point Beach. This fee is paid when arriving at the amusement park. Breakers Express guests are NOT reimbursed for toll or parking fees." *** Edited 12/4/2004 12:23:14 PM UTC by MrScott***

Hmm, I have thought about Lighthouse Point, although splitting 6-8 ways isn't something that I can do, since there will only be 4 of us. I would bring more people, but since I live 11 hours away from CP, I'm trying to keep it confined to 1 car. I still might look into it though, because the cottages/cabins look nice.

As of now, everybody that I'm planning on going with is fine with paying the $200/person hotel cost, so I'm excited to stay on-point for the first time! :)

I am confused about one thing though. I know that when you go to the resorts, you pay for the parking and then get reimbursed for it at your hotel. Is that how it works every time you leave the park? For example, if I got a huge craving for McDonald's and wanted to leave to go get it, would I pay for parking again when I come back and then get reimbursed at the hotel again?

P.S. Thank you guys for your suggestions. It's definitely helping me plan!

Mr. Scott, they had shuttle service last June when i stayed there (Express). I don't know if this was new or not but i did see the shuttles. Although, i opted to drive myself.

Carrie, I don't know how it works for Breakers, but when i stayed at Express you get a parking pass that you put in the window of your car. That allows you to just drive right in and out. I'm sure once you get into Breakers thats what they will probably do.

I am 100% sure the shuttle you saw was Cedar Point shuttle. And I'm 99% sure they don't service Breaker's Express. At least they didn't when I stayed there.

Lighthouse Point is the best way to go. You get all the benefits of a hotel and are able to feed yourself, rather than eat out all weekend. Once is nice, but to only eat park food for three days will make you fat and, possibly, puke.

MrScott, that had to be the most straight forward & funny statement I have ever read about eating food at CP three days in a row!! now thats funny, I don't care who you are, thats funny!!

At Breakers or any other on-point property they give a parking permit to put on your driver's side dash that is valid through your departure date.

Carrie, I can guarantee that once you stay on-point, you'll never want to stay anywhere else again.

I agree Scott, I probably won't. Just the convenience of it all, and not having to drive in and park everyday, etc., will be wonderful. I've always wanted to splurge and stay on-point, but it always came down to what my friends were willing to pay, so it just never happened. But this year, they're okay with it, so I'm very happy!

It's almost like the on-point dorms; when I worked there I lived at Commons, but I wished, by the end of the summer, that I had lived on-point, just for the convenience...

I can't wait for 2005! :)
