Cedar Point Police

This is a really strange question. I see that all of you guys and the newspapers refer to Cedar Point police. Are they really a police department or are they just a security team that wants to be a police department. When I went to SFGA this past summer, I saw that they had security officers not police. If CP has a police force, what is their authority under the law? Can they legally arrest someone? Do they carry firearms? Thank you and have a good day.
From what I understand, yes, CP Police is in fact a police force. They do have the authority to arrest and carry firearms.

I think they even have a detective bureau, and I have heard that the Sandusky Police Dept. calls on CP Police to help with certain things.

Neil and Pete are correct. The Cedar Point Police Department has a police chief and the ability to arrest, just like other police departments. I'm not a police officer or a lawyer. I don't understand how it all works legally, since Cedar Point is not a municipality. They work pretty closely with the Sandusky PD.

This works just like most larger university campuses...... the CP Police are granted by the city and county the power to arrest people.... from what I have experienced they have worked with the city police with all arrests and everything and do reports and such just the same.... it kind of saves the city time and energy by doing this becasue if not they would probably have a lot of calls from what would then be Cedar Point Security and not a Police Dept. They do have a dectectives in the force I believe 3-5 of them or so.

They have what is called Bonded (what I used to call real cops) and non-bonded officers (what I called fake cops). The bonded ones are ones that have gone to school and passed tests to be a police officer they are the ones that carry guns. There are also the ones who are non-bonded officers that are most likely going to school for Criminal Justice who are basically in training and can't arrest people without having a bonded officer there....

I have been told that total there are about 200 ish officers.

There are those that are year round bonded officers as well as seasonal!

The CP Police even experience some of the dangers of "real" police work. On November 5 a car was sighted driving recklessly on Chausee Drive and CP Officer Brian Mox was struck by this vehicle as he tried to stop it near the toll booths on the Cedar Point Causeway. He was taken to Medical College of Ohio and listed in serious condition. (This according to the Sandusky Register, November 4, 2000.) I do not know what his condition is today.
I know first hand that CP DOES have a detective bureau...And believe me it's not fun dealing with them either!!! Truth be told don't mess with the cedar point police they know there stuff
atleast we dont have to walk through a airport type security checkpoint to enter yet,so they must have better control than some other parks do,of course i guess those other parks locations have something to do with it too,
but i still wonder the potential for something major happening with that many people in the park on a busy day.

I know this idiot, known as Streeter, who had a run in with the CP Police this past season. He was standing in line for the Force when he felt compelled to carve his name on one of the hand rails. Well needless to say no sooner did he pull out his pocket knife, the boys in brown and white had him out of line and headed for the front of the park.
Now here's where things get humorous. When he was removed from line, none of his friends noticed! Some three hours later while near the main gate, one of his friends noticed him hanging out in front. He had to wait until his friends were done inside the park before he could leave which of course was near closing time. hehe
Streeter was ticketed and was supposed to appear the next day for a hearing or something which I'm sure he did not do since he is a bit of a dolt.
