Cedar Point Mobile Site

This works perfectly fine on my iPod Touch! Yay

Ashley

An inverted coaster is like a ski lift gone haywire!!

It looks good on my phone I have the Samsung Instinct for Sprint and it works ok. The web cam page is not working right now for some reason. I really do like this though!

First rollback on Dragster July 23 2003 since then 15

On my Verizon LG Env2, it is wonderful. I was using Verizon Mobile Web Browser 6.2.3.2 Universal Edition by Openwave Systems Inc. I accessed the normal site a few days before this was released, and this is a billions time better for my phone. The only problem I ran into was that the web cams didn't work, but I think that is just because of my service provider. However, the map feature worked just fine for me.

The Find Near Me feature is really neat too.

Works fine on my Motorola Q with Mobile IE. I'll second the suggestion of putting "Today In The Park" on the top menu. I use that link while in the park to look up showtimes. I have a bookmark to the regular site for "Today In The Park", which works on my Q, but I like the speed and layout of the mobile site better.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Using Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket Internet Explorer on a Motorola Q thesite works great so far. My one gripe would be the map. I think itwould be easier to use a larger picture that would enable the user toscroll around rather than zoom in/out. Nothing happens when I press thenumbers on my phone, I have to actually click the links to zoom or pan. That being said I think it is fantastic.

It would be very cool if there was a way for CP to email a ticket with a barcode on it that could be scanned from the screen of my phone when I get to the park eliminating a need for a physical ticket. Not sure if that is possible but it would be very cool

^ - I think thats a smartphone issue (the button clicking).

Loops - There is a section that is GPS-like. You can enter an attraction near you, and it will give you other surrounding rides/shows. The one issue I found though is its accurracy.

I put in Panda Express, and it gave me 2 options, the actual restaurant and the smoking area (near Panda Express), which was fine, I actually liked that part.

But all the rides that it came up with were "in front of" Panda. Millennium, CPLE, WildCat, Mantis, Iron Dragon. It didn't show any of the rides "behind" PE. Thunder Canyon, SRF, etc.

looks great on my iphone i think it would be great for in park use and when u r on your way to the park.

What's Life If You Never Get To The POINT?...see yall in line!

Very nicely done! Busch Gardens has something similar at BGWmobile.com and they have included a feedback/question option at their site. Knowing early ride availability would be a plus as well!

Only problem I see is with the number of lost mobile devices at the park. At Maverick last week, the ride-ops said they found 17 in one day alone - and NONE of them worked any more. It's one thing to loose a just cell phone while riding - quite another to loose your PDA. ($$$)

Cedar Point needs to find a way to secure these types loose items and not cop-out on us with the "we are note responsible for..." option.

Yeah John, I saw those options. What I was talking about is actuallygiving each attraction its own "address" using GPS coordinates. Thenwrite a program and sell it for a nominal one time fee to be able togive actual locations and distances. Albeit straight line distancesyou'd still get a pinpoint location of what you wanted.

Thereare numerous programs such as this written for golf courses so that ifI'm in the middle of the fairway on the 16th hole I can tell EXACTLYhow far I am from the front, middle and back of the green. Thegreatest thing is that it uses your existing GPS built inside thephone. Unfortunately companies like Verizon Wireless lock theirs downso you have to buy their program for mapping purposes. Just one morereason I have at&t.

eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!

Ride on, MrScott!

^^Isnt that what the bin where you put your "loose articles" before your ride is for? They have the bins so that they cant be held responsible.

Last edited by adidas,

The bins are a good start, but I don't think I will ever leave my PDA in one of them anytime soon.

It's also amazing that you can't even get in line for MF with a loose item of any sort. The guy at the entrance does point out where the (pay) lockers are though.

Why should they be responsible?

Loops - yeah, I've seen those for iPod/phone. If/when I finally make the switch to ATT (a couple years now since I just renewed my contract) I'll (wife willing) be going the iphone route.

Doesn't Apple do the same lock-down on the iPhone's GPS? As I understand it, no one can even write apps utilizing GPS. That's lame.

JuggaLotus's avatar

^ - doubtful, there are a whole slew of golf course GPS apps written for the iPhone. Kinda pointless for my iPod seeing as its lacking a GPS receiver, but they are rated fairly highly for the iPhone. So I don't think they are locking anything down.

I still stand by my original comment... If you want your clientelle to use your WIFI (related) site, it would be only prudent to provide more signal in park for it. Even my local Big Boy restaraunt has free WIFI....

djDaemon's avatar

That must be a new development, as I'm quite certain they were doing so, per several episodes of the TWiT podcast. Glad to see they've stopped that BS.

JuggaLotus's avatar

The apps were available as soon as iPhone 2.0 came out, so maybe the change came with the phone upgrade.

I was at least half-right:
Turn-by-turn GPS navigation ready, but blocked by Apple's SDK terms

So, they're blocking nav apps from using GPS, but I imagine others can use it for other services, so long as they're not for navigation? This is likely because Apple's locking it down, so you have to buy either their app, or AT&T's. Again - lame.
