Cedar Point in Newsweek

In the July 9th issue of Newsweek (The Stem Cell Wars on the cover) there is an article about how expensive entertainment (movies, music, theme parks) are nowadays, and Cedar Point is mentioned a few times, as well as Millennium Force being featured behind pictures of Madonna and Sammy Sosa :)

Here's a link to the article (but no CP pics):

I think they hit it right on the head why I spend a lot of time at work and not at amusement parks... I don't have enough cash.

That's all BS. I'm doing Disney World twice in 2001, I've done CP once (and I'm tentatively planning a second trip). I've been to Dorney, Hershey and Williams Grove. I'm planning on doing Knoebel's, Kennywood and SFAmerica in the next five weeks.

People will do (as they always have) whatever they're willing to make happen. End of discussion.

As a poor college student who currently has $15 to his name (I can smell that friday paycheck already!), I'd like to point out that there are a lot of things I'm willing to make happen like taking trips to Dorney, Michigan's Adventure, King's Dominon, and Kennywood. But where there's a will, there is not always a way. I guess you might say "But VorTeX, if you were truly willing, you'd forget paying rent and spend it on coasters instead" to which I'd reply "shut up and get your head in the real world".

That said, I can still mooch off of my girlfriend for gas money and go to Cedar Point every couple weeks :)

Hey I read the same article of that. There was another article in another magazine about a romantic getaway and inside the article they said,

"To the left is a picture of Millennium Force. The Worlds tallest, fastest, and longest drop."

Nothing wrong with that, but the picture to the left was a huge picture of Magnum!! I wrote in to tell them that they made a pretty big mistake. There wasn't even a millennium force in sight!! What is it with people!!! First the "and cedarpoint has Superman: Ultimate Escape" and now this!
Duane,

Everyone excepted. If I was making more $$ I would love to visit all those parks. As it stands now, I will get to make 4 trips to CP and none to the other parks. I can make this many trips because I bought my season pass when I could afford it. I could not afford it now.

I am not a Poor college student - of which most of them actually give a good indecation of how well the economy is doing. I make a good living but do have a mortage, utilities, gas, and kids. As prices increase at the park and as they rise getting to the park, it becomes cost prohibitive to go. There are higher priorities for my money.

It amazes me how defensive people get when a force (no pun intended) they have no control over, has an impact on something they love so much...
I'm going to be a poor college student in a couple of years...does that count? :) Well, I don't think my brother will have any problems going to the parks he chooses since he's gotten a full ride to Notre Dame...bastard.
We have actually been able to go to a couple more parks this year than we usually do, but...we were able to do this by saving money in another way. Instead of having to pay for hotel rooms and food in the parks, we take our pop-up camper and our own food and this saves us a lot of money. The other thing we did this year is any money or checks we received (rebates, b-day, anniv., etc.)basically any money that didn't come in form of a paycheck, went into a separate fund. It's amazing how much money you can save up this way. We still continue to add to this fund throughout the year. Had we not done this months in advance, there is no way we would have been able to do all that we've done so far and are planning. A free season pass and 4 free tickets to SF didn't hurt either. :)
