Maybe this has been discussed elsewhere, but I noticed that CP is open until midnight on many Fridays in addition to the Saturdays through the summer. Also, they are open until 11 pm for many dates in the end of July and beginning of August, which is new, right? I love getting the extra hour of evening ride time when the weather is nice. The evenings are so much more tolerable heat-wise.
I might be wrong, but I believe CP was open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays last year from July 4th weekend through mid-August to coincide with Beach Blast. I do enjoy Cedar Point staying open later in the Summer for many of the same reasons. I noticed that Kings Island stays open until 1AM on Fridays and Saturdays for their Halloween event. Has Cedar Point ever stayed open later than midnight?
I'm pretty sure a few years ago I was at Cedar Point and they were open until 2 a.m for some special day in August. It may have been the 4th of July, but I'm not sure. I know for sure that they've been open till 1 a.m. before.
As a guest, I love the idea of extended hours. As a former employee, I feel bad for the employees this season. But I have to say maintenance probably doesn't like it much either. If I remember correctly, they can't start most of their tasks until an hour+ after posted close.
I always like being in the park after dark. The lighting is awesome and the experience of riding at night is very cool. On nights during the summer when the park closes at 10 you don't get to experience that. It really isn't even dark until 10 till 10.
I love that magic at 7:22 when the station and lift lights would come on on Magnum and then to look out across the park from the platform and see the Gemini midway light up with Monster, Witches Wheel and Pipe Scream's lights turning on one by one. To see the lights pop on the lift of Maverick, then suddenly Millennium Force starts changing colors...
Definitely my favorite time of day in the park.
