I've been doing a lot of research for a documentary I'm currently working on, and I was hoping that some of you Cedar Point history buffs may be able to help me out with a few questions.
- Was the Switchback Railway essentially located where the Coral Courtyard is now?
- Where was the Three-Way Figure Eight Roller Toboggan located?
- I've heard two stories about the Roller Toboggan: that it was relocated and transformed into the original Racer, and that it was simply replaced by the Racer. Which one is true?
- Was the WildCat that sat where GateKeeper is now the same one that was relocated across from Iron Dragon, or the one that was sent to ValleyFair?
- What attractions have previously sat on the GateKeeper site? I know it was home to parking, then a picnic pavilion, then Jumbo Jet, then whichever WildCat, then Avalanche Run / Disaster Transport. What am I missing?
Thanks so much for the help! Want to make sure I get my facts straight here.

Being a CP historical buff myself, first the easy answers,
Yes, the Wildcat that was removed in 2011 (across from iron Dragon) is the one that sits where Gatekeeper approximately is now. Wildcat's footprint was more at an angle. The 1st version of Wildcat from 1970-78 was sent to Valleyfair.
Attractions on current Gatekeeper site:gatekeeper, Disaster Transport/Avalanche Run, 2nd Wildcat, Jumbo Jets, smaller attractions such
as the Zugspitze, Matterhorn, various refreshment stands.
Switchback Railway sat between the Grand Pavilion and the beach, so yes about where Coral Dining Room, courtyard is now, correct.
RCDB.com states that the 3 way figure 8 toboggan ran from 1902-09 @ Cedar point, but my 1905 CP map shows the Racer (also a figure 8 shape) being there (approximate current site of today's Wicked Twister plaza). I'm thinking it was transformed into and renamed the Racer at some point during those years.
Hope these answers help you somewhat....now if someone could answer some of my questions about the 1961 season, I'd be happy.
The first coaster to sit on the GateKeeper site was actually the Racer then the Racer was replaced in 1929 by the Cyclone. Ween WildCat was on the site, it was entirely in the parking lot. Its stations were at in angle down by the Transport Refreshments, Before WildCat the parking lot ran all the way up to Transport Refreshments on both sides included the final parts of DTs spot.

Where did the Rotor used to sit? My mind is playing games with me trying to place it.
Promoter of fog.
^ There were three different locations for the Rotor. The 1st original Rotor
sat in the current Midway games location (in front of and a little to the right of current day Johnny Rocket's) from 1961-1962. It moved down the midway (toward the front of the park) in 1963-64 to the right of the front sky Ride station. A new 2nd version of the Rotor opened up in 1967 and was located behind the Colisuem/arcade (in the site of the current 3 point challenge basketball game, old Chaos/Schwabinchen locations).
