Cedar Point Has the Cure for the Summertime Blues

CrystalKat reminded of this over on coasterbuzz. I hope everyone knows the song Summertime Blues, originally performed by Eddie Cochran, then covered by Alan Jackson, George Throrogood, the Stray Cats, etc. Anyway, I know some people here remembered the CP parody of it at the end of a commercial spot sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. In place of "there ain't no cure for the summertime blues" they inserted "cedar point has the cure for the summertime blues"

My question is if anyone remembers if the parody was a whole song or just the end of the commercial? I remember very little seeing I was probably about 8 :)

As I remember it was just the Slogan and Partial part of the Song (refrain)..I have a brochure that has that on the front from the 80's

The 1986 brochure (Space Spiral and Avalanche Run on the front) carries the tag line "The Cure for the Summertime Blues".

I think it was just the last verse, something like:
(warning, this is from very dusty memory)
Gonna take a day off, gonna have a fine vacation
At Cedar Point, the best park in the nation
(memory is garbled on this line)
Cedar Point's got the cure for the summertime blues.

--Dave Althoff, Jr.
Here is the lines missing above...
Gonna stay all day, ride till after dark, at Cedar Point the Amazement park...
Sometimes I wonder what I'm gonna do...Cedar Point is the cure for the summertime blues...

I really need to go through my Star Trek: Next Generation tapes I have from 87-94. I bet I have a bunch of old commercials taped from both Fox66 out of Flint and WKBD50 out of Detroit.

I not only remember it, one of the popular island entertainers (Mike "Mad Dog" Adams) does a version of Summertime Blues with the line "At Cedar Point, the best park in the nation". He must be a fan of the park and he probably remembers that commercial also.

All I remember was that it was a great tagline for the park, because I don't think anyone here would disagree with it! "Cedar Point has the cure for the Summertime Blues..." :)
