has anyone read any of the cedar point books ive seen around? these three in particular, are they worth the time?

Experience the Point: Unofficial Guidebook to Cedar Point (Second Edition) by Andrew Hyde

Cedar Point (Images of America) by David W. Francis, Diane Demali Francis

Cedar Point: The Queen of American Watering Places by David W. Francis, Diane Demali Francis

The only book that I have read is Cedar Point: The Queen of American Watering Places. It has good history of the park.

Good for little Andrew... he managed to compile all of PR's fact sheets into a book for them!

Haven't heard of the second one before, is it new?

I don't know if it's new or not but I saw it last week at Coaster Con. There were two other books in that series that were being sold. One on Idora Park and the other on Kennywood.

"He says to me, 'Oh, there'll be no tip today, but on your death bed you will recieve total consciousness.' So, I got that going for me." Carl Spackler

The Cedar Point: Images of America book I bought at Cedar Point just a few weeks ago. They also have a book in that series about all of Ohio's parks, past and present (mostly past). They are both mainly picture books with captions... admittedly, the kind of book I like! Still, I think it's worth it.

I've read Queen of American Watering Places, and I think it's well done. Very thorough history. Own both editions.

I've not heard of the first one. Where can one find that?

Any similarity in name is purely coincidental.

Francis I'd say is a legitimate historian (though it seems everyone that has met him doesn't like him). He's done the leg work to put together a historical account.

Try requesting these books from your local library first before buying them. I've done that before.

CP:TQOAWP is definitely worth reading. It is very intriguing and thorough. It is good reading and would be an excellent addition to any collection of Cedar Point memorabilia.

I love lamp.

I also have both editions, and yes, they are well worth the money.

I haven't heard about the second either. But I have the other ones.

Experience the Point is mostly all about planning a trip to Cedar Point. It has some useful tips but from me being there so many times and reading all the stuff on here the tips aren't that good anymore to me.

Queen of American Watering Places is nice. On the downside the book is seven years old so it doesn't include Millennium Force and how that ride affected the park by making so well known. If you would like to learn about history of the park this book will tell you all. The first few chapters of the book are boring to me because the growth of the park was very slow, but the once the World War 2 was it gets interesting to see how the park came out of a big slump and became how it is today. Highly recomend this book.

Hopefully that helps.

A little off topic but is this book, Roller Coaster: The Roller Coaster Designer Werner Stengel new. It says you can only pre order so I'm just guessing it is new. *** Edited 7/3/2004 6:08:19 PM UTC by Gomez***

Just my 2 cents...

As a first timer to the point the 'Experience the Point' was pretty good. It listed all the rides and atractions and did give some tips and hints regarding how and when to plan. I think everything and more can be found on the CP site as well as this one.

It did give me something to read on the way when it wasn't my turn to drive! But for anyone who has been there more than once or twice - I'd say forget it!

Experience the Point is written by a high schooler and it shows from time to time, that said it's a fairly complete "unofficial guide" and would be useful to a CP rookie.

"Queen" as mentioned above is a complete history of the park up until a few years ago. I believe there are two different editions, one more up to date.

I haven't seen the Images of America book yet, I thought I would find it at CP a couple of weeks ago, but did not.

FYI...

According to the information I found on Amazon.com, the book was published by Arcadia Publishing in April 2004.

Obviously that's only been three months ago, which may be why CP doesn't have it for sale as of yet.
