Cedar Point announces 2004 plans

I was hoping Soak City would get something else too...like a Master Blaster, but I understand we can't ask for too much after a $25 million dollar investment last year on TTD. Well, it will be a long winter not having a coaster to talk about...got to admit it was fun last year with all the speculation.
I must say the Park is doing a hell of a job in turning itself into a two-day resort. The Park is growing so much that sooner, rather than later, people will have to stay two days to experience it all.

Lighthouse Point and the Soak City expansions were expected, and I am lookign forward to see how Soak City will look.

The park already had the two day guests, they are looking to extend it to three days at this point.

As for off-season speculation I am glad there is no coaster for next year. Perhaps the trolls will stay off the boards. (Wishful thinking).

I am curious to hear where they are putting the wet multi-story piece. I wonder if it is going under the old slide tower or on the island of the old lazy river.

I would say it is almost becoming a 3 day resort. There are not too many 3 consecutive days of great weather on Lake Erie. CP could put a 3 day, 2 night package together which included 2 days of CP and Soak City and one day at the indoor water park to be used when you want to use them (ie: CP and SC day 1, rainy day 2- indoor park, day 3 @ CP).

Has anyone seen a picture of this yet? I'm curious to see if it will be any different from the other play areas that are at most waterparks nowadays.
You gotta give Dick all of the credit for making the place a world class resort.

There were a lot of years when hardly a dime was spent on the Breakers (the only hotel up until the late 80's.) I do give Mr. Kinzel credit for seeing the potential to create a destination out of the park.

As for a package that includes the indoor waterpark, it won't happen. The indoor waterpark will only be available to guests of the Radisson, at least to begin with. There are no current plans to open it to the general public.

Wait wait wait. . .once the indoor waterpark is all up and running, "Radisson" won't still exist. It will no longer BE a Radisson, right? Am I right?

I didn't hear that it won't be a Radisson, they could certainly make the Radisson into a water park resort and still be affiliated with that chain. There are probably a lot of advantages with keeping it a Radisson, including the tie-in with Radisson's world wide reservations system.

I have read nothing officially that the Radisson flag will be gone but I have heard unofficially that this is indeed what is going to happen. The Radisson name is not needed to put heads in beds during the season. It was kept by CP mainly to help fill rooms in the offseason.

If this indoor waterpark proves successful, there will be no need to pay the significant franchise fees to keep the name Radisson.

They said that they plan to have the Radison water park open to the public in November. I wonder if the hotel will be open to guests visiting Cedar Point during construction?

A: Rollbacks

I am sure the hotel will be open but there will likely be construction. The waterpark itself appears in drawings to be a separate but connected building to the Northeast of the current hotel. That should limit the disruption to the hotel guests.

That's interesting because the hotel at Knott's is a Radisson, but Knott's has no off season. Maybe the are trying to attract Disneyland guests to the Knott's hotel also, so the name Radisson is advantageous.

Buena Park hotels typically turn up in searches for "Disneyland" lodging on the on-line tools. It makes sense not to brand the hotel too closely with the park, for exactly the reasons you suggest.

Ahhh Mr. Noble, you are wise indeed.

I know this only because we are planning a Family Outing to Mouse Ground Zero (plus side-trip to KBF) this winter. Since the offseason is nearly upon me, the only Amusement related distractions are planning this trip and playing RCT2...;)
