I don't think those are good examples because the ones you mention all have very good, if not great lighting and/or are the exception to the rule. LR has tracer lights the entire layout and is amazing during the day and even better at night. The Beast and BBW (not sure about woodies at HW) have unique settings and yes, would make no sense lighting them. MF is awesome by day and spectacular by night. The lighting adds to it, not take away. The only change I would make there (if any), would be to put the same lighting that's on the first hill, on the big hill after the first tunnel.
I was super before Super Stew was cool !
I think the usage of lighting displays can either enhance or take away from a ride experience. Every ride is different; some should be left the frack alone while others could use a well thought out, creative, professionally designed lighting package. (The italicized adjective is the most important one.) My newly postulated rule of thumb: a badly designed lighting display is worse than none at all.

If you haven't been on Boulder Dash in the dark, ride it.. blows Beast out of the water.
Also another coaster which is greatly enhanced by no lighting.
On the topic of CP Lighting.. improvements are needed.. but thats been covered I think.

One of the things about riding Beast at night (or anytime for that matter) is that it seems that you are about 5 miles away from civilization when it goes way out into the woods. I remember the first time I rode it I thought, "If this were to ever derail they would never find us way out here!"
