Cedar Fair "Please!!!! buy SFMM"

Got stuck going to LA this weekend(work), so being a coaster fanatic I went to SFMM. Nearly everything I wanted to go on way closed (Goliath, Deja Vu (stuck mid-turnaround), etc..) and the ride I did get to go on was X. Yet even that ride was closed to some one losing their shoe for 1hr (B.S.) <--lie ;saw them working on the controls/mechanics. Nobody there seems to know or care about anything, the place was a mess, even walking past the games not 1 person was trying to coax me into playing any (though I wouldn't anyway). And back to the rides that were broken ;they happened to fail to mention that before I bought my ticket. I guess this is why my season pass was only $47.99. Though I know this will never happen I will continue to be optimistic (C.F. buying SFMM). I would just like to see the kind of turnaround C.F. did for Geauga Lake. Just Frustrated..

You should've gone to Knott's Berry Farm. Your pass would probably even get you in there.

I would have gladly, yet I was with co-workers who wanted to go there (for X), plus myself being a Jersey resident I get my pass at the point when I go there in May. Next time its KBF deff.

Your pass for 2004 is still good at KBF until the first of April. I doubt SF would sell one of their flagship parks, but if they did does anyone think it'd be a good buy? Knotts is very close but they'd own two of the three major parks near L.A. From what I read SFMM has some of the worst rides around for reliability. X, Deja Vu, and S:TE are some of the worst operated rides around. 7 years later Superman still can't run like it was meant to, Deja Vu was poorly designed, and X is a whole other story. Cedar Fair could take advantage of this, but it sounds like the park would take too much money to repair.

Not worth it, in my opinion.

Being stuck out west myself so far away from CP, you've gotta deal with SFMM or KBF. In my opinion KBF has it's share of problems too. Let's face it, CP is in a league all it's own.

Disney is in the west. Though like CP, Disney is also in a league of its own.

True, Disney is in a league of its own, but if you're looking for an extreme ride park, Disney isn't really the place to go, still a blast to visit regardless.

SFMM Isn't worth a damn......

Maybe CF will do with SFMM what everyone says there doing with GL. Run the park into the ground, close the park and sell the rides to Japan parks, and monopolize the North Ohi... I mean South California market. ;)

I'd hardly call a $20+ million waterpark an attempt to run the park into the ground. Also, the purchase price of $145 million is a lot to pay to close a park that didn't even take a bite out of Cedar Point's income. What they want to do is have both parks be profitable. CP will always be the flagship, but a successful Geauga Lake can add millions to their bottom line each year. That's what they're after.

This year was a rough start, but I look for the attendance to go up incrementally over the next few seasons (perhaps back up over 1 million next year or something) until it returns to the 1.5-2 million level.

I count myself lucky. We went to SFMM a few years ago and every single coaster was running except Colossus, which was closed due to construction for Scream. We had a blast! Ironically the day before we went to KBF and the only coaster running was Boomerang.

SFMM really can be a lot fun. Their coasters are running all year long, not just in the summer months like CP's. There is going to be times when various coasters/rides have to be closed for routine maintenance, its to be expected.

Ha! The way I understand it, maintenance cycles have nothing to do with ride closures. I got Islands of Adventure every year in November and they manage to have everything open.

Everything I've ever read about SFMM talks about the same issues every year. Many rides are closed and the park atmosphere is dipping very far downhill. I'd be disappointed to visit a park in a very nice state like California and see a dirty amusement park. The Sky Cabin, Metro, and Flashback have been sitting idle for over year. That's not very good.

Maybe I'm giving SFMM too much undeserved credit. There really is no excuse for having such a large number of rides closed on any given day The last two times I visited the park, DejaVu was never operating. Oh, do I miss getting beaten up on Flashback!

I guess being open longer would affect the quality of the rides, maybe, but look at the many other parks that are open year-round and they're just fine. Just a thought, never been to SFMM.
