I know I ask a lot of Q's on here, but my friends were going to KI and CP and finding out all this crazy info. My one friend went to KI in april and they closed the park at 8pm due to lightning. Then on ohio state day at CP on may 5th they closed the park due to light rain at 4pm when the park was open til 7pm. I'm connecting the dots here and hoping this is not a new policy they're going to be doing the rest of the summer. Like if it rains a tad at 2pm, I hope they don't close the park. I have passes but many people paid for daily admission and we don't want to have to leave the park mid-day.....
I can't speak to CP, but what KI did was perfectly reasonable and I was there Friday April 28th and was actually headed to my car when they decided to call it a day. It was already raining and there were very nasty looking red cells on radar headed straight for the park. By the time that would potentially have passed by it would have been closing time. I was hoping to get out ahead of the storm but failed and it was a very stressful ride all the way back to Columbus.
I knew the risks going down that afternoon and lost, oh well, it happens. If there is literally no chance attractions can reopen why should they keep the park open?
That correct. If there's a reason to believe that strong storms will be the order of the day I'd think the last thing they'd want is a park full of people. Get out.
But not to worry. I'm sure there's no "new" blanket policy to close parks in the event of rain.
Keep in mind Ohio State Day was dead, the rain was hard and steady, and temps were in the 40s. A far cry from a passing summer shower.
I would say Cedar Fair's weather policy has gotten more leniant. Dragster was running in the rain a few times on Saturday, and a few other rides were open during light showers that normally aren't.

There is no way they are going to close a park early unless there is a severe danger or they are going to lose money for the day. There have been other days when they have closed early when the attendance is extremely light.
On the flip side, I have actually been there twice when the park extended hours in the day going from a 10pm close to 11pm or midnight.
But they are in the business of making money for shareholders so you can rest assured it's not going to be the norm.

Yes not to complain, but I certainly hope that's NOT the new norm.

I'm pretty sure being "in the business of making money for the shareholders" is not the "NEW Norm." Pretty sure it's been the norm at CP for almost 150 years.

^Technically yes you're perfectly correct..however you do understand what he was alluding to. When people ask about getting Cedar Fair stock, I generally just point out how it is acquired and what it entails. The rules governing an LP and a shareholder agreement are different, but in a layman sense are very similar. The intricacies are moreover important to actual corporate structure and corporate law.

There's really no such thing as a consistent "Cedar Fair" weather policy anyway. Every park seems to have their own system. For example, parks like Dorney and Cedar Point close tons of rides when it rains, Kings Dominion and Kings Island run basically every coaster in the rain most of the time (though Kings Island occasionally closes their Arrow rides). I'm sure things like this will also be decided at the park level on a case by case basis, there really is no "across the board" policy.
