Cedar Downs and Derby Day

I'm not a big fan of horse-racing at all, but we do catch the Derby every year. And of course, there are the two major subsequent races that take place throughout the course of the Spring and Summer (Preakness and Belmont Stakes).

Given the ride's uniqueness and history at the park, I always thought it would be cool if Cedar Point would do something special with Cedar Downs on these race days. I'm not exactly sure what, but maybe some unique drink/food vendors outside the ride; temporarily "naming" some of the horses in the ride; giant screens showing the races outside the ride...

This really is just a passing thought, and perhaps brought on for my fondness of this ride. It will always be my favorite non-coaster at the park. To my knowledge, Cedar Downs is one of only two of its kind in existence, yes?

Maybe I should talk to someone in marketing. :)

One of three, the others in New Jersey and in England. Up until recently the other two weren't fully functioning though the horses were stationary instead of racing but I saw a video recently of the one at Rye's Playland racing. Post mentioned the names of the mechanics responsible for getting it back in shape. The one in England from what I understand isn't an original Prior and Church Derby but a replica and last I heard the horses were running stationary instead of racing. I've seen pictures online of the mechanical schematics underneath that make the horses race it looks pretty complicated. Makes me wanna smack people upside the head when they don't stop rocking the horses when asked.

Rye Playland is in Westchester County, New York, not New Jersey.....

I want to smack the people who are personally told to stop rocking the horse back and forth, and then continue as soon as the ride host walks away.

^^ I've seen it referred to as being in New Jersey but never checked into it since I don't plan on going.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Apparently I've some incorrect sources at some point or mixed it up with another park.
