Cedar Creek Mine Ride

I was at the park on Monday and noticed several spots around Cedar Creek Mine Ride where there were little orange marking flags. It also looked like there were fresh tire marks all over the ground from trucks driving around and under the supports. Has anyone considered the possibility of this being the last year for this ride?? It sits right behind the "Mystery Construction" zone on Millennium Island. Going up the lift I noticed a few spots where trees and shrubs have been recently cleared along the waters edge directly across from the main clearing on the island. The thought has always been in the back of my mind but after seeing this I think there is definatly a possibility that they might axe the Mine Ride. I think it would be a really great spot for whatever is coming.

Only if it was a better Mine Ride.

I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74

Just like Mantis and Iron Dragon, why couldn't supports be in areas where the Mine Ride isn't. I believe people have suggested footers fitting inside the mine ride area. Just build around what's already there. :)

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

I saw those last week as well. They seem to be markings for power lines. If you trace them they lead to the water under the lift hill. There is a coinciding metal post on millenium island as well as a concrete pad placed there for a trasformer.

Mine ride really isnt that bad, It's fun and smooth. Its really nice especially for the little one. Its got some nice hairpin turns and The helix at the end is a good ending. Yes its not the best but it could be a lot worse. It could be super rough and really hard on the body but it isnt too bad. Id be sad to see it leave but I anticipate it would be for a good reason. Ill be trying to get a ride on it this year before the year is through.

The counter-argument is that Cedar Point operates on a roughly five-year rolling plan, and the project to completely replace the lumber on Mine Ride and Gemini just completed either last year or this year. Why would they invest in a three-year longevity rehab on a ride they were planning to remove after year #4?

I would like to see them re-do the seat cushions to bring the seat back to the original dimensions. That would make it a lot easier for a lot of us to ride...!

I really enjoy MR. It was my favorite ride as a kid and I would be sad to see it go. It really is a big part of Frontier Town.

I rode CCMR an awful lot when I was a kid, and I'm glad I had parents patient enough to go on it with me a dozen times per trip. I enjoyed it up through college because I would act scared in line and convince my uninitiated friends that it was the craziest ride in the park, that it went under the lake and all kinds of other stuff. I agree with Dave though, I wish my legs fit in the seats. I'm just under 6' and can barely pull the lap bar over my legs if seated properly, so I can't imagine what really tall people have to go through if they want to ride.

Nostalgia aside, it sits on a pretty sweet piece of property and is the oldest ride lining the lagoon, so it wouldn't be a total surprise to see it go.

Yeah it is tough to ride for taller people. I am 6'3" and wont ride it unless who I am with really wants to. As for the piece of property it sits on; cant get much better. I think a new ride here would really finish Cedar Points "rebirth" of the back of the park nicely. Just think of sweeping over the lagoon onto the island then coming back and hugging the pathway all the way from the MR stations current location to the RR crossing. Have they replaced lumber recently?? I havent noticed any new wood on the support structure. If they have it can't be alot, therefore prob wasnt much of a investment for the Point.

OMG the CCMR, that was one of the first coasters I ever rode... way back in 1974. Thanks for reminding me how old I really am. Between the CCMR and the Jumbo Jet is where I got my love of riding coasters... Let's Ride!

All the bents from the curve after the first lift to the drop over the water have been replaced within the last year. I can see a lot of new wood that has been tarred throughout the ride. What happened to trains 4 and 5?

Although the thrill level for an adult is low, I like this ride for its beautiful fit in Frontier Town and its attraction to younger kids. My wife wouldn't ride it this year, so I went alone. I was seated with a young boy who was also riding alone. He was very excited about the ride, and we had a great time "screaming" on the hills and turns. Made me feel a lot younger that day. It was good.

CCMR takes up a TON of land. You really could fit a decent coaster in there. CCMR is so historical though and is a great ride. It may not be that thrilling but I would be sad to see it go.

I really enjoy the mine ride,It is really cool when you ride it in the complete dark right in the front seat!!!!!
But i don't think it will go like everyone is thinking

If you are interested in Mine Ride's control and train setup, there is lots of good info in this thread. As for the particulars of the 4th and 5th trains, they are probably wrapped up somewhere or have been broken down for parts.

I also dont really think that you will see Cedar Creek Mine ride leaving the Cedar point Arsenal of coasters any time soon. It is a good ride. A high Capasity Ride. And Is Just a all around good coaster. I really like mine trains. You really see them being built in Asia And China. Not much here though. . Not many are being built in the USA any more. I really feel that you really dont have to be the tallest, fastest , longest coaster to be a good one. I may be wrong . But I think that its going to stay at Cedar Point A long time.

^its only good capacity when they run 3 trains. I have only seen that happen once

Pepsi Refresh is saving one coaster at a time: http://pep.si/bTTsfc
