Cedar Creek Mine Ride = smooth?

I was at the park yesterday, and I have absolutely no idea how they did it, but Cedar Creek Mine Ride is (for now) likely the smoothest coaster in the park! All of the jerkiness and sharp lateral forces that it's known for were totally gone. I was absolutely shocked, and in fact I felt that it really lost its whole "runaway mine train" feeling, thus making it much less exciting. Did anyone else riding it this weekend notice this? I really don't know how it went from one of the jerkiest/roughest rides to one of the smoothest, but bravo to the maintenance crew for doing such a stellar job at refurbishing.

I used to experience that on really cold days at the park. All those arrows run so much slower so it *could* be that it was running slower than it does at normal temperatures hence a feeling of less jerkiness. But it would be awesome if it stays that way. Not that it bothers me in full rough mode. :)

Here's a weird question for you:

What seat did you ride in? Were you, by any chance, in the third row of Train #2? I ask because yesterday there was something special about that seat. And I'm hoping it spreads to the rest of the train!

Nope, Train 2/Car 3/Second row. When I rode, Train 2 had just finished testing and had been added into the ride, so maybe that could explain the smooth ride. It could also be new wheels or a slow ride, but none of these would really explain the complete loss in laterals or the non-jerkiness of the classic Arrow transitions. Maybe some trackwork was done in the off-season? It felt like a totally different ride; instead of almost having my ribs crushed around some of the turns like usual, I got off thinking I had gotten on the CP&LE train by mistake! Lol

I rode in the back row of the lead car in train #2. When I sat down, I gave my usual warning to the other people seated in the car ("Keep your hands WELL CLEAR of the lap bar when we return to the station at the end of the ride!!") and I suddenly realized the seat was different. My seat had a squishy butt cushion! The back was still hard as a rock, but the bottom cushion was actually soft, with brand new upholstery! Now I don't know what was so special about that particular seat, but when I got off I double checked: that was the only one on the train.

I hope the rest of the seats get those. Even better, I hope they also replace the back and side cushions!

I am sure the cool weather had something to do with this, but on Saturday, I watched approximately 8 maintenance guys walk up to an empty stalled train. It was sitting just past the right turn that turns away from the station heading toward the double helix. Every other time I went by I never saw it running. Could be running slow for now=smoother ride?

I only rode it once this weekend but it seemed more slow than smoother. Now when Gemini finally opened, I was in the back seat and that thing was very smooth. I always assume it's because everything is freshly lubed. We even had tilt-a-whirl spinning like nobody's business. That being said, Maverick was very clunky. The second time we rode it there was a terrible and loud knocking coming from underneath the train. I couldn't enjoy the ride because I was watching for bolts to come flying out. But everyone lived.

Probably the plastic tire on a wheel was defective.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
