Cedar Creek Mine Ride

What does everyone see for the future of the ride? I couldn't see it going anywhere anytime soon because it's a classic. Maybe the trains could see some improvements?

Classic, mild coaster, so it's a good "entry level" ride. Doesn't take up a lot of space. Provides a kinetic energy to that area of the park. Seems to me it will be around for some years to come.

As I said in the other thread, I think they should adapt this ride to get younger kids on it and beef up the theming. A lot of big family/general audience attractions have been lost over the years, I think a decorated Mine Ride that allows younger riders would be a big draw. At the very least adapt to get the height limit lowered.

If Cedar Point did ride theming, and they should, it would be a departure from their normal MO over their entire existence.

I don't count Disaster Transport; nobody should count Disaster Transport.

Well, not entirely true. There was a time when CP was contemplating theming more just the Frontier Trail and Frontiertown back in the mid 1970's. That died when Emil LaGross passed away and Robert Munger took over. Now there is a new CEO of the corporation, one with an extensive experience with themed attractions. Expect to see a rebirth of themed attractions in the near future at Cedar Point.

^Gatekeeper doesn't have much theming to it and neither does PS or Eagles... I see that the new CEO does come from a Disney background but he does't seem to be pursuing that at CP which is fine and understandable because CP is an amusement park not a theme park.

I'm sorry but CCMR does take up a considerable amount of space. Yes it has a low height requirement but its fairly jerky. Still I don't think it should be torn down. I would like to maybe see another ride in that space interacting with CCMR. Maybe another coaster or dark ride. There is a lot of empty space in the area that CCMR takes up.

^ 48" is a low height requirement?

They weren't supposed to be themed though. If Cedar Point wants to theme a ride, they can and will do an amazing job but not every ride will be themed nor do they have to be themed.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

Says you.

Hard to believe my first ride on this ride was 32 years ago, and my Dad was allowed to hold me on the ride in lieu of using the normal restraints.
Some not-too-far fetched things that would be cool to see regarding CCMR:
1) A bit of theming, decorating.
2) Better cars so that parents of a larger height/stature can ride with their kids. (Didn't I see a photo of Gemini trains on CCMR?)
3) A relaxation of height restrictions to get younger kids on the ride. (Ok, given the litigious society we live in, that won't happen.)

Just rode it yesterday and while it is a mild ride, it still has a lot of potential.

Believe it or not, Mine Ride is already a themed ride, so CP has done theming; they can add more to it.

Mine Ride is as themed as a "Mine Ride" as much as Magnum is themed as a Spaceship, which is to say, barely.

I don't consider rolling slowly through the maintenance shed to be "Mine-like." Big Thunder Mountain is an example many can relate to. That's a themed ride, which could easily exist in either a theme park or an amusement park.

My car is better themed as a space ship than Magnum and it's a stock Focus. :)

I wouldn't be surprised to see more themed attractions at Cedar Fair parks. Give Oiumet some time -- he's only been president and CEO for a couple of years. He can't accomplish everything all at once :)

CCMR isn't a well-themed ride by 2014 standards, but by small amusement park in northern Ohio in 1969 standards, it was pretty well-themed.

That said, it could use a refresh.

While I get what you are saying, as a little kid that was one thing I thought was really cool. Of course, I also thought CCMR was quite fast and scary at that age too.

I think it's cool too going through the MR's shed, and always have, but it's not theming in any way shape or form. It's just cool because other than a station, coasters don't generally run through buildings like the MR does.

The light themeing on the Mine Ride is the station design, the caved in entrance (which used to be the real entrance), the train design and the creosote stained timbers on the structure. For what it is, it works well, especially back in 1969 when it was built.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

My only complaint is if the park could modify the trains (lap bars). What ever became of using spare Gemini trains idea? If it would work, all they would need is cosmetic changes.

Well, for one, one of Gemini's spare cars is in Town Hall Museum. :)
