Castaway Bay Renovations

I remember that back in august, CP announced that they were going to renovate the rooms at Castaway Bay. Has anyone seen the changes? http://www.pointbuzz.com/news.htm?id=700

I'm a little curious, when is Castaway Bay's peak season. If it is during the winter I don't see a lot of renovations happening in peak season seeing as they might need those rooms.

Castaway Bay's peak season is June-August, due to the huge crowds of people coming to Sandusky for the park. Probably the winter holiday periods such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Presidents Day, etc. would be considered peak times as well because kids are out of school and families want a weekend vacation during the winter.

Most of the winter season though is just marginal, with weekends being much busier than weekdays do to the fact that kids are in school. If they are closing down floors or wings of the building to work on, they would be doing it over the winter.

I kinda figured it would be a winter thing.

They are renovating already? Geez that didn't take long.

It should have been done before they opened. Not that the rooms were bad, but for what you pay, you'd expect a little something more than a common hotel room.

See, the goal is to keep you out of the room and spending money anyways Mr. Scott.

You are in a Cedar Fair Park. There is no doubt they will get into my wallet. A nicer room to retire in should have happened before they debuted Castaway Bay. JMO.

On the plus side, they noticed that the rooms were dull and decided to fix them.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

In the down side, I realized that years before Castaway Bay. :)

I've been in far better hotels for less.

There was one wing under renovation during the first September Halloweekend. I assume that they started after labor day, but don't know that for sure.

Even at reduced capacity, the hotel was nearly dead that weekend. We snagged a last-minute room at $150.

We were really impressed with CB. There are a number of features to the place that make it much more of a resort than any other CP property: kids activities, the spa, some Halloweekends lobby entertainment, etc.

I've often criticized CF for not knowing how to run a "resort" as oppposed to a "hotel", but especially with the room renovation, I think they are finally starting to get it.

I do beleive hotel was Renovated starting in June and the major renovations finished at the end of October. Evident of the dumpster that sat behind the hotel all summer and construction trucks that were there everyday. You could see the dumpsters while you were driving past Breakers Express. I live around the corner from Castaway that is how I noticed this. I went in Castaway recently and the place looks great. Definitely completely finished.
