Castaway Bay Marina

operative_me's avatar

I know some folks on here keep their boat at CP Marina, was just wondering if anyone has tried Castaway Bay Marina?

Doing a cursory Google search, it doesn't offer the same amenities. I also saw a post that said it's a 20 minute idle trip just to get out to the bay. Is that accurate?

I'm looking into it because it's about a grand cheaper than CP.

(Keep in mind, I don't even have a boat yet, but I have begun looking for one!)

A buddy of mine keeps his boat there. Pretty accurate that it takes 15-20 minutes to get out to the bay. Only part of it is at idle speed. About half of it can be run at planing speed but you have to stay in the channel, some shallow water outside of the channel.

They have a nice pool and hot tub and Quaker Steak and Lube is right there and you do get the CP passes, etc., but nothing beats staying right on Point at the CP Marina.

Ah thanks Pete. Agreed on the CP Marina, we'll see if I can swing it.

We are in our 2nd season at the CP Marina. Definitely worth it if you can swing it. Nothing better than being able to leave the park and hang on the boat for an afternoon cocktail. Have met lots of very nice people there.

Cant really say much about Castaway Bay but it is a run just to get to the bay. My dock neighbor had is boat at Castaway Bay last year and said it was nice but its just better being at CP.

You absolutely cannot go wrong at the Cedar Point marina. We have met some incredible people this summer. We love it there!

What dock are you on?!?

But yes the cedar point marina is definitely worth the price difference, if your not staying at Cedar Points marina, I wouldn't advise castaway. I would stay away from any cedar fair owned marina as their policies and rules are more strict then your ordinary marina. I would check out Son Rise or Baypoint. All are about equally as far from cp by boat or jetski

That doesnt exactly make a lot of sense. How do you say the Cedar Point marina is worth the price difference then say you would stay away from any Cedar Fair owned marina? There are only two. Im not sure what strict rules you are referring to. The CP marina is a great place to spend the summer and I havent encountered any of these strict rules.

Bay Point is very nice, but its more expensive than CP Marina and then you have to still purchase your season passes and spend money on fuel or the ferry over from Bay Point.

We're at 1322 at least through this weekend. :(

CP Marina lists tons of rules but barely any of them seem to be enforced lol.

Also, Bay Point makes you pay extra for their pool. It is a nice Marina, but the management is more focused on the houses than the marina (not that CP isn't focused on other things too). Son Rise, I think the smallest docks are 40ft. So you are going to be dealing with mainly bigger boats.

CPMarina2000, what rules would you consider more strict? The only one that is slightly annoying to me is the parking restrictions, but until there a Marina Only Parking Garage (in my wildest of wild fantasies) there is no way to get around that one.

Agree, I love CP marina and I don't see these rules that are out if the ordinary. If however you want some other marina options, I would highly recommend Venetian, owned by the same people as Son Rise but smaller docks are available.

On average, how much is it to dock at Cedar Point Marina for the summer?

Depending on the dock size from $2,300 to $7,100 per season.

Ehh, we used to be there, and my parent in laws were there for many years. While they are both owned by Hoty, they havent put any money into Venetian, at least compared to Son Rise. Also, their docks are in serious need of upgrading. They were when we left 6 years ago and according to friends that are still there they haven't touched them.

We really liked Dock of the Bay, being right in downtown Sandusky, but having a small child at a marina with no pool or open space and right next to Barrel House was not conducive to enjoying boating.

Cedar Point is one of the more expensive marinas in the area, but when you factor in the Platinum Passes it is much more competitive.

Lots of good advice here. Like I said, hoping for a boat this spring. Driving Uber to make some extra cash. Would like to keep it around the eastern end of Sandusky Bay. I won't be getting a large boat by any means so on days the lake is rough it would be nice to take it out on the bay if it is calmer.

I buy a platinum pass anyway so I would see some value out of using a CF marina. Thought CB would be good since I come from Cleveland and I wouldn't have to drive in to downtown Sandusky. Also would avoid those pesky traffic jams Siouxsie hates 😉

Also with the frequency I go to CP I don't want to pay a dock fee every time so not sure I want to go to another Marina.

If you dock at Castaway, you get free dockage at CP marina. Nice perk to avoid traffic. And who doesn’t like commuting by boat??
