Its quicker than walking (and warmer). When the park is closed and there is heavy activity in the park (like in the weeks leading up to opening) there's lots of auto traffic on the midways.

I want to drive through CP some day. I remember how cool it was the first time I drove around perimeter rd by MF.

Well, all you need to do is get one of those Antique Cars to jump the track... ;)

I got to ride in a Police car down the main midway a few years ago! Me & a couple buddies were getting our season passes the week before the park opened and we drove around and saw people walking in the gate next to snoopy's ice show so we thought it was ok to go in. Well, we were walking down the midway and a cop pulled up behind us and asked if we worked there and we told him we just got our passes and wanted to look around. He said we were trespassing and to get in his car. We could've been fined but he was cool about it, gave us a warning and drove us back to the gate.
I'm surprised he didn't tell us to keep all hands & arms inside the car at all times!!

I'm pretty sure that's what the handcuffs were for. :)
The park definitely seems a lot smaller when you're traveling through it by car/truck. It's an interesting experience.

I was an Area Sup this summer and it was loads of fun gettng to drive in the park, especially at night. Of course, it was mainly to go look for something that an employee forgot, so I was extremely angry most of the time. Otherwise, it was awesome! :-)

How many of us are old enough to remember when the road cut through the main Midway? There was a time, years back, when you would have to stop and wait while cars passed by, during park operating hours. It basically ran across the midway down near the North Skyride station, over towards Admin and the water tower. There was a series of concrete posts forming a path for the cars, and the guests would wait as they passed through. I'm not sure with all of the work in recent years that you can still see it, but until recently, if you knew what to look for, you could still identify the path.

I bet you right now if I drive in the midway I will probably crash into a coaster or something. I'm a horrible driver.

No, this was the roadway to Hotel Breakers. It was, of course, later re-routed around the peninsula for some obvious reasons, like safety. Another reason: so they could gate the amusement park and charge a pay-one-price fee to enter the park and enjoy all the rides at no additional charge. *** Edited 11/18/2006 7:35:34 PM UTC by CoastersNSich*** *** Edited 11/19/2006 1:46:43 AM UTC by Jeff***
MOO!!!
I've driven around in the park several times, mostly during the winter they were building Millennium Force, since you couldn't drive around due to the crane. That may be true right now as well since they're running a power line down the road for Maverick.
The scary thing is that there are so many blind corners in the park that you wouldn't think of when you're there on foot. It's normal protocol to honk on approach so you don't hit someone.

I was fortunate enough to receive a tour through the entire park last off season. You cannot beleive all of the places a car or truck can go in the park. A totally different perspective from behind the scenes.
A funny thing about driving on the midway; The vehicle you're driving apperently make no engine sounds. So you could be driving right behind people trying to get past and they don't even know your there. You just beep the horn and it always scares the crap out of them and they move out of the way. I guess it's because you don't expect some one to be driving there.
