Capital Improvements for CP

If you had Dick Kinzel's job for a year and had a budget of $50 mill to work with for 2002 season.What improvements would you make???

($2M) Mean Streak: I'd reprofile the second half, re-track the whole thing, and get new trains

($.5M) Mantis, Magnum, and Blue Streak- PAINT!!!!(especially the pink and faded yellow Mantis)

($.5M) Magnum (again)- Replace the tunel effects

($5M) Wildcat- repalce w/ an Arrow Wild Mouse

($1M) Disaster Transport- Re-do the effects in the queue line so people know what's going on and  repair the broken effects on the ride

($15M) Oceana Midway-I'd do SOMETHING to draw attention to the place, maybe actually start a boardwalk project with a mid-sized Cyclone-clone and some flat rides

($17M) New Ride- After (re)moving Chaos, Troika, and Dodgem, I'd make either a B&M Flying or Floorless coaster in that area.

$50 il. is a lot!! I can't think of anything else to spend it on!!

I would improve employee housing, give staff raises...oh, wait...if I were Dick Kinzel?

Pocket the money and build another wing to the house.

$50 mil? Fix up DT, replace MS (with what i dunno), Boardwalk Project, and a few bucks sent to Jeff to keep up the good work, and to bring back the grass cam :)

Host a massive once in a lifetime celebration bonfire at the site currently occupied by Mean Streak, and replace the rubble ground with something good.

-2 mil-Reprofile the Mean Streak, add tunnels

-20 mil-Boardwalk Project w/ wood coaster

-4 mil-Restore Disaster Transport

-1 mil-Add a neon light tunnel to Corkscrew's brake run (to make the ride more interesting)

-20 mil-add a B&M flyer or Arrow 4th Dimension to Millennium Island

-3 mil- paint and restore anything that needs it

 I'd Reprofile  meanstreak with tunnels , bunny hops, and a helix...

fix up DT with a new theme...

add some flat rides..old and new.. ( I Miss the double ferris wheel)

and bring back Dark rides...

Re-do Disaster Transport

Build a coaster that topped over the 1,000 foot mark....(if even possible)!

Build a 350-foot tall floorless coaster where Camp Snoopy, and all the little rides are located on the Gemini Midway.

Fix up Meanstreak and put half of the ride in tunnels

Build a HUGE area full of INTENSE haunted houses and scary stuff that will change every month...(different houses with different things in them).

If I were Dick Kinzel, I woud take the money, spend about half of it on capital improvements, especially in park beautification, and then I would save the excess for the next off season to build something really rad. Sorry--lame post.

Hmm... here's what I'd do...

 

8 Million - Tear down Mean Streak and get a lovely CCI Woodie put in its place.  Villain-esque.

15 Million - Yes, it's been said... the Boardwalk Project - I like the idea of an old-fashioned style woodie (from none other than CCI), and then some awesome eats joints and some nice shows.  Maybe hiring some bands to do nightly shows?

20 Million - Something from B&M.  A Kraken-style 7-8 Inversion Floorless would be beautiful.  Or... a flying coaster.  I LOVE X-Flight, and I'm sure B&M  could put together an awesome flier.  Or... even a Twisted Impulse from Intamin (you can tell I'm a SFWoA fan as well.)  Even an Arrow 4-D would be cool.  I have a feeling X will be wicked.

3 Million - Beautification... painting Blue Streak, Magnum, Mantis, add a couple trees, a few more benches... stuff like that.

2 Million - Improve Corkscrew.  Somehow.  Get new trains and add a Barrel Roll, maybe, or add a helix or some bunny hops.  Maybe some Lap Bar restraints...

2 Million - Improve Disaster Transport.  C'mon, the ride is nothing but the effects... which are now gone.  Really cool idea for a ride.

That's about it.

Let's keep something in mind...

If Dick Kinzel were spending the $50 million for capital improvements, he would be spreading that money out amongst all of the Cedar Fair parks.

The better question is..."If you were Dan Keller and had $50 million, what would you spend it on?"  That said, Dan, too has to worry about more than just rides and ride improvements.  When you spread $50 million over rides, foods, merchandise, accommodations, etc...that money goes pretty fast.

5- Boardwalk
10- A CCI woodie near that boardwalk
5- a new Hotel on the boardwalk with gambling and, er nevermind this isn't Atlantic City (this would make the biggest profit).
5- general maintenance. Paint, concrete , spruce up shops, ect
25- put it in the bank because people are not spending :(

If Ohio would ever pass a gambling initiative, Cedar Point would be first in line to land a casino.

There's already enough Hotels and Food areas. The Landscaping looks good. What they need to do is squeeze in some more coasters. Six Flags is going to really compete down the road given all the space they have.

First things first - bring back the Pirate Ride and Earthquake.

Theme some coasters - Raptor and Mantis come to mind.

Boardwalk project - they have yet to fully take advantage of Lake Erie

Gerenal maintinence - paint, landscape, and a back-up cable on site for MF. :-)

New rides - Put in some crazy kind of mulit-inversion coaster (15 inversion floorless with a 2-mile circuit, anyone?)

That's my guess, Elroy. I've been hearing for awhile that at least Mantis is getting painted.
