Canada's Wonderland season tickets

I wonder how the math works out; public sees this hard to pass up deal, they sell a gazillion of these passes. Then, the vast majority of purchasers only go a handful of times, one of those being a Halloweekends Saturday that will discourage them from coming back as often. Others who purchased the pass will then be tempted each year come renewal time to renew at a likely pricier amount.

And now we have actual confirmation. Don Helbig just posted this on FB:

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair, Kings Dominion announced an unprecedented new benefit tied to its 2026 season pass: unlimited admission to more than 40 Six Flags Entertainment Corporation parks for the remainder of 2025 and all of 2026. This limited-time anniversary offer will roll out at every park in the chain starting next week, marking a major milestone for North America’s largest regional amusement-resort operator.

So, the idea of expanding access to all parks on the cheapest pass doesn't seem completely irrational to me. While few people will take advantage of it, it's good "aspirational" marketing that can imply value and increase brand awareness.

What doesn't make sense to me are the price points. This first year of being able to access all 40+ parks would have been the perfect opportunity to rejigger the pricing tiers to something like:

  • Summer Pass $99 - Access to all parks through labor day
  • Gold Pass $199 - Access to all parks all year long + free parking
  • Platinum Pass $299 - Access to all parks all season + free parking + early entry + "perks" (10% discounts, FLP for FL price, etc.)
  • Prestige Pass $399 - Platinum benefits + stuff like preferred parking/entrance, VIP areas, 20% discounts, etc.

I did see another tweet from Mr. Helbig stating that the low-price gold pass only includes parking at your home park, so maybe there is something there. If you're traveling between parks, that might be motivation to get a higher-tier pass.

Does it seem odd to be announcing the new passes on X? Cedar Point is still selling summer passes for $125 and gold passes for $165 (noting the gold pass is the "Best Value") on its website. Seems like floating trial balloons. Though maybe that's just because I am not on X.

The only park to actually roll out their sale so far is Canada's Wonderland. The rest is just speculation or believed insider information not from the parks themselves. The Six Flags chain for now is just teasing the announcement, which sounds like it will be next Thursday 7/31. So still makes sense that CP would be selling passes for the current season until then.

Actually, press releases went out today I think for all of the parks.

Press release went out today to local news stations. Limited time promo through Sep 2. Pricing up in the air still but would expect it to be similar to Wonderland but in USD.

I'm curious what is going to happen with Ticket of a Lifetime. Those are Gold Passes that need to be renewed every year, but the park sends out renewal codes from mid-September to mid-October.

I bought one for my son and I yesterday. We already had a day trip to Cedar Point planned in August. Admission would have been around $50 USD or roughly $68 CAD. Was pretty well a no brainer to buy a Wonderland gold pass and make a weekend trip up to Toronto to visit a good friend that lives there, buy him a bring a friend ticket for $25 and the three of us can go to the park. My son and I will go to Cedar Point next month and any parks we visit in 2026 will be pretty well free. I'm pretty sure the last time I was a passholder was in 2011 and the season pass cost more than this.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Limited time promo through Sep 2.

Which, given their track record over the years, will be extended at least until Closing Day, if not Thanksgiving weekend.

I have had the Canada's Wonderland pass for the last 3 years and I have never set foot in CW. Just renewed for 2026 as well and it doesn't seem to require any kind of activation. The pass end date updated in all the apps like always.

I think the activation only at home park just applies to passes if you were to buy them brand new.

I looked at both CW & KD websites and it still says to keep your current pass if you renew because after you renew it is activated and all set like usual.

I think its just a farce to try and get people to pay the higher price for their "home" park. If you read the FAQs it has links to online activation for new passes depending on which park you bought from. So it sure still seems like you can just do the whole thing online without physically visiting any park first. And honestly what happens if you have a pass for say Cedar Point that doesn't even open until May but want to visit Kings Island that opens several weeks earlier? They are just going to deny you entry for those weeks? I don't buy it.

I already renewed my pass through CW for 2026 and given the new lower price i decided to upgrade it to the Prestige instead of the gold and no matter which app I use it already shows as Prestige and 2026 expiration even though I haven't visited a park yet. Going to Cedar Point later today though.

I wonder if this will cause a lot more people to have prestige. Busier VIP, more fast lane use, more premium parking use. Less prestige.? Who knows, just asking questions and wondering.

Will be interesting to see. Personally I never thought the benefits were enough for the extra cost when it was $350 vs $100. I didn't see then value for $250 more (x 4 people in my family)

But for 2026 since its essentially the same price for the prestige pass as what i paid for the Gold + All Park last year I decided to go for it.

When you lower the price to a point where "everyone" is prestige, no one is prestige.

Uncle Steve's avatar

Agreed. $199 for Prestige Pass is way too low.
I just renewed mine at Cedar Point. Prestige Pass + all parks dining & drinks plus ICEE was only $449
I'm sure I was paying more when I had the old Platinum pass.

I think I would have had far less of an issue if they had done the $99 gold pass that includes all 40+ parks but kept Prestige at the $350-ish price point.

At this rate things like Early Entry, the VIP entrance, the lounges and other perks will be watered down and overflowing next year.

jimmyburke's avatar

^ Overflowing VIP Lounge you say? That is likely why they are building those private cabana structures there so they can funnel people in there for an up-charge.
