Can Any One Identify This Car

I'm trying to date a Cedar Point Brochure. The link below is of 2 Cars on the cover of the brochure parked in front and next to Breakers. The Brochure is between 1972 and 1978 as it has Jumbo Jet in another picture. It calls Jumbo Jet, "America's Wildest Coaster", so I'm leaning more toward the early 70's. I'm fairly certain it's before 76 because it does not mention Corkscrew. If anyone can identify the make, model or year of the cars, I would greatly appretiate it.

I'd say '72 by the style of the clothes, car and hair.

Just a guess!

Might be able to give you a better guess with more scans from the brochure.

My next best clue is perhaps the phone number on the back. Does anyone know when CP's number was 419-626-0830?

That's the number now. Been that number for as long as I can remember.

I'm going to say it's 1974.

1. There is a photo of Jumbo Jet, so it's after the 1972 season.

2. There is no mention of Corkscrew and Jumbo Jet is highlighted as the wildest coaster. So, it's probably before 1976.

3. There is no mention of the Cedar Point Cinema. I would think it would get a mention since it was the big, new attraction of 1975.

4. It notes "reservations are accepted beginning April 1." April 1, 1974 was a Monday.

Unfortunately, 1973 and 1974 are two of the hardest years to pinpoint in Cedar Point history.

Ok... on a tip from my uncle I did searches on google for an early 70's monte carlo. It's definatly a Monte Carlo. And based on the sides and the tail lights i think it's a 73.

So now I'm narrowed down to 1973 to 1976.

Thanks for your help Walt.

If it's a 73 Monte Carlo, even more proof for 1974.

Sorry about the phone number guys. I just looked on the back of some of my newer brochures and didn't see the same number.

Just be yourself, I'm sure she'll come around. :)

For whatever it's worth:

1. 419-626-0830 has been used as CP's phone number since at LEAST the real early 60's (45 years?) originally thee only number. The marina had its own number also.

2. Notice the station wagon in the backround - that was the Breakers "courtsey wagon" you can "just about" see the decal on the door.

3. The Matterhorn was put up there (fall of 71) for the 72 season and moved to its present location in 74 or 75.

4. Wildcat came to that location in 79.

Best guess - 74 or 75 for the brochure

The car is a 1973 Chevy Monte Carlo. This model year brought a swoopy redesign that emphasised the long hood and short deck. The '73 Monte was the first with opera windows. Top engine was a big-block 454-cid V-8. The horizontal strake treatment on the taillights as seen in your picture was introduced for '73, dropped for '74, then returned, with fewer strakes, for '75.

Arguing with a coaster enthusiast is like wrestling with a pig in mud. After a while, you realize the pig enjoys it.

It could have been shot in the autumn of '72, used for the '73 season, or it could have been shot in the summer of '73, for the '74 season. But Walt's information points towards the fact that the shot was taken in 1973, used for the 1974 brochure. My guess is that it was shot in '73 and used for the '74 brochure.
