Camping in the Cedar Point area

Hi everyone!! I'm looking for a little help selecting a campsite near Cedar Point. I am a Church Youth Group Advisor for a church outside of Cleveland, and I am planning a weekend trip to Cedar Point. There are about 20 people in our group. I would like to find a campground where we could tent camp. Seeing as this is a church group outing, I would like to find a place that is family / group oriented. I would also like to find something that is kind of new and not run down.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you!!!
You should check out Camper Village. It's nice, and it's right on the Cedar Point peninsula. There's just a short walk to the park from Camper Village.

i stayed there in a park model in may,and will probably be staying there in a tent during the late season.
im sure others will add their comments to this as far as how the family /group features are , as it was quite empty when i was there.or if there are others farther away that might better fit your needs.

Thank you for the quick responses!!!

WHOEVER - I saw bayshore listed when I was doing so searching on the web... it looked like a good place. Thanks for the reccomendation.

ERIC - Do they allow tent camping at Camper Village??? From what I could see on their site, they do not... unless that has changed. Thanks for the reccomendation.
I just called CP for verification, and indeed (as per their website):

Tent camping (individually or with an RV) is not permitted.

I need a vacation to recuperate from my trip reports.
Have stayed at Bayshore many times, I always waste an extra couple of $ on the Bay sites (right on the water). Going to be there 6/29,6/30, and 7/1. We always have a good time there. Anybody think that CP will ever allow tent camping on the point? bugs me that they don't include an area for us who don't think RV's are camping :) not that theres anything wrong with 'em, just not for me.

nope, can't say as I have. A little swampy I take it :)
I would check out Camp Sandusky. It's only about five minutes from CP and has small cabins. They also alow tents.

I have been at Camper Village when the water was as high as my knees in 80% of the campground. If they were to allow tents people would be sueing left and right b/c their stuff was ruined, loved ones drowned, etc.
Once again.. .thanks for all of your input!!

DB - Thanks for checking on tent camping at Camper Village for me.

Noevo - Is a bay site big enough for about 15-20 people. If not... are the sites right next to each other so that we could get 2 sites??

Noevo or Whoever - Ever stay at Camp Sandusky?? Can you compare with Bayshore??

Magnum - I checked out Camp Sandusky on their website. Looks like a decent place. Have you stayed there before?? Have you ever stayed at Bayshore?? Can you compare??

Thanks again!! :) *** This post was edited by hgilmore55 on 6/27/2001. ***
There is a place down the road in Fitchville, Ohio. Very family oriented, but would be about a 20-25 minute drive. Maybe someone here remembers the name?

Camper Village was cool! But from what I here, tents won't work when it rains hard.

Unless you are a frog.

sorry, only stayed at bayshore :(
so i cant compare them.

Bob - I checked online and couldn't find the place in Fitchville.... probably a little far from CP anway, but thanks for the reccomendation.

Whoever - Thanks anyway.... I think we are probably just going to go with Bayshore....looked pretty nice.... wasn't real impressed with their website though, but hey what do you want for a campground I guess!! :)

We're going to CP the end of July so we gotta make a decision real soon. Anybody have any last minute input on Bayshore vs. Camp Sandusky??
Bob....Indian Trails campground is in Fitchville

It's Dan K's fault.
I've called nearly all of the camping places near Cedar Point. If I'm not mistaken, Crystal Rock, Bayshore Camp Sandusky and Shade Acres are all owned by the same company. Pretty much the same rates and conveniences. I travel with my dogs and none of these places allows dogs with tent camping. I found a place called Cedarlane RV Park which is in Port Clinton. About a 20 minutes drive to CP and they allow dogs (on leashes). Obviously in the summer you NEED to call for reservations. Not only is it people in town for CP on the weekends, but there are people who park their campters there all summer long. Obviously there's lots of walleye fishing.
