Do it, it's worth the extra cost to be on Point. Check out CP's website for more info and pics.

My folks used to take us to stay at Camper Village in the late '70s/early '80s, and I remember nothing bad about it. It's a lot less "rural" feeling back there now, but the price is right compared to other lodging. If you already have the RV, go for it.
We stayed at Sandcastle in August and when we walked to the park we went through Camper Village and it still had a nice campground feel. Right in the heart of it where the trees are fairly *dense* (I use that term lightly) it reminded me of when I used to go camping with my family. If I had a trailer I would deffinetly consider it.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Like Jeremy said, its not nearly as "woodsy" as it once was. But, its still a great place to camp. You're right in the action of everything. The campsites are a little close for my liking now, but they're ok for a weekend.
We stayed at the campground this summer, it was "ok" im mean you had a little walk to the entrence. The only thing i tell you is that if you go for a cheap site like we did, they arent blacktop (we only have a pop up) and it wasnt level. Also expect to have lots of bird droppings by the time your trips over.

The best part about camping is that you can cook yourself a good meal in the middle of the day or you can run back for a nap when the park is most crowded. It is also good for when half of your group wants to go to bed and the other half is still going strong.
Also, there is a bus you can call to come and get you from the lighthouse point pool and take you to any of the entrances and then back to lighthouse point when you are done in the park.
As campgrounds go its not all that great. It is just a lot with a picnic table and electric hookup. No camp fires allowed, no big open areas to play in plus the sites are very close to each other, but that is ok because you're not there for the camping experience.

We stay there all the time. Someone said there is no paved sites. In the original loop, there are paved sites. Next time you are there, get the site numbers and request them on your resevations. Thats what I do. I get the site I request all the time. Never been turned down.
Now, we also been staying in the new campground. They are $20 more per night, but it is all concrete level pads, new picnic tables, water, sewer and cable TV connections (been hearing rumors of wireless internet hopefully next season). For those that have RV's that use all that, they are great. I used to have a Popup and i still stayed in the new area. Now that I have my new camper, I am looking forward to my 1st time in the new area with full hook up on the last weekend of the season. We just stayed in the original campground a week and a half ago with the new camper and had a good site.
We like it for all the above reasons, meals, naps etc. It really saves a lot of money and it is nice. Some of the above posts make the campgrounds sound not the greatest, but like I said, even in the old campground, if you get the right sites, you'll be happy and have a good time!

Staying at Camper Village is great fun. I've never camped in the new section, but the old section is pretty nice. It is not the greatest campground in the world, but having it right there on the peninsula makes it worth it.
This year we camped right next to Soak City. There was a entrance to Soak City right around the corner from us which was nice when we visited the water park. The actually park was a little farther to walk, but not bad. I mean the steps that I took to get to the park entrance were nothing compared to the steps that I took while in the park.
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
Its not those steps that get you, its the ones at 12:30 on a cold October night and going the other direction that get you.
Goodbye MrScott
John
Why wait until next year? Break that new RV in, there are still 3 weekends left. :) We love CV, especially the lighthouse point area, full hook up, etc. and for all the same reasons already cited. One other perk is when the park is too crowded and hot we escape to the pool at LHP or head to the beach and I get in a nap on the lounge chairs while the kids swim. One thing to add to what has already been said, if you like a campfire you can bring a fire pit, many campers do this. Since we discovered CV a few years ago we have been camping there 2-3 times each season.
