Camp Sandusky?

Has anyone here ever stayed at Camp Sandusky? My sister's friend wants to stay there for my sister's upcoming bachelorette party because it's cheap, but looking at reviews on Tripadvisor, the place doesn't look all that nice. I've stayed in nicer cabins doing a family camp with my dad's boy scout troop. Advice please.

We stayed there in 2007. It was nice as far as a CAMPGROUND goes. The "cabins" are literally just a bedroom with maybe an air conditioner. But the shower houses were clean, the people were very nice, and the grounds were nicely kept. The pancake breakfast was nice. They had (not sure if it's still there) a bunny farm, there were domesticated rabbits hopping around the playground. Having said that I've heard the place turns into a mud pit with heavy rain. We literally used the place to sleep, shower, and eat breakfast. However we are looking to stay there this fall, again due to price. This time we will bring our own camper.

If you're looking for a place to have a campfire and hang out after a day at CP then crash, Camp Sandusky will do just fine. If you want something a little nicer but price is a concern, check out the "Kabins" at Bayshore/Sandusky KOA. A bit more expensive but a little nicer amenities.

Just don't stay at the KOA during bike week.

^^ They actually have huge warning banners all over the website regarding Bike Week at KOA not being a good time to come for a family vacation...

Years and years ago, I helped organizea large group meet up at Camp Sandusky - we told them over and over and over that they would need a large space, away from anyone because it was friends from all over and everyone would be catching up and chatting until later in the night - and during the day we'd have activities going on like big groups playing frisbee and whatnot. They assured us it wouldn't be a problem, not in the least. "Plenty of places to put you guys, and you can be as loud as you want". I didn't stay with them because I had to work and was going to meet them the next day, but I helped them organize.

The group was tossed before 7 PM for being too loud and rowdy (I guess a group playing football was too much) and they all wound up at Bayshore...

Shane, Agreed. They do have it on their website. Problem is if you go through the national KOA website and make your reservation, you do not get the same warnings. It bit us big time last year.

We stayed there a couple of times in the late 90's early 2000's with a large group in the cabins (seven or eight cabins.) We were loud, and up late, but we didn't have any problems, but that was ages ago.

I would say it depends on what your looking for. If it's tent or trailer camping I think your good to go. I've taken our trailer there for the past two years in early Aug. We stay Sunday night til Thursday and the two years very quite there and relaxing. From the two years ago and this past year I could see them doing some light upgrades and general cleaning of the grounds.

So I would say it's nothing crazy fancy, but basic and clean campground with owners that I do think care about the place.

Fyi I was able to use my Passport America campground pass and saved 50% off the rack rates for the full hook up sites. Not sure if they offer that with the tent camping, some campgrounds do.

They offer a discount to CP season passholders; 25% off Sun-Thurs and 10% off Fri & Sat.

("They" being Camp Sandusky...)

Personally, I would love to stay at the KOA during bike week. I bet it is a damn good time!
