^He is talking about if you reached out of the cabin (is that what its called?) and it slips from your hand and hits someone in the head on the ground.
As for a camera on a ride its as safe as taking your cell phone on it. I wear cargo shorts everytime I go to the Point so I just put it in there.
Let's Get Weird.
Since when was Sky Ride two feet off the ground? If someone drops a phone or any other object from the cabin while in transit, guess what? It's gonna hurt a lot if it hits someone.
I swear some of you who post here are the ones who leave the common sense at home when you go to CP.
"For safety reasons, taking pictures, videotaping and filming on rides are prohibited. Picture taking is permitted on the C.P. & L.E. Railroad, Paddlewheel Excursions and Space Spiral
Loose articles are defined as cell phones, pagers, hats, cameras, stuffed animals, umbrellas, beverage containers, personal entertainment devices, purses, backpacks, etc. "
Cedar Point could put that policy on a large IMAX screen, put it in front of each ride, and we would still have a problem enforcing it. This also goes for Basketballs, and why they are not permitted on a lot of rides such as Sky Ride and Iron Dragon.

here's an idea. take all the basketballs to a nice open field and torch em! :) I don't know what happens when people win a basketball, but all of a sudden they think they're Muggsy Bogues (that's right, muggsy) and can't stop dribbling until their hand literally falls off. Ack!

Everyone knows my take on basketballs. Just give 'em out deflated, and allow them to get air in them when they leave the park. Once an inflated basketball goes out, it is not allowed back in.
Then, if kids really want to play with basketballs, fence off an area for them to go and play, and staff the entrance with one person, and give them one task: Don't allow basketballs to leave the area. It's simple, and I'm sure kids would even pay a couple of bucks for an open b-ball court.

No one said that the problem was enforcing it, though the employees are at some fault. The problem is people who think its cool, fun, or otherwise perfectly safe to carry loose articles onto prohibited rides.

I regretted putting a compact camera in my pocket this year. I have a pretty little dent on the front of the case where the plastic lanyard was pressed between the camera itself and the restraint.
Now I have a nice metal case just large enough to put the camera in and it still fits in my pocket. About the size of a pack of cigarettes.

I have a Canon compact point-and-shoot and keep it in a soft case and keep it in my cargo pocket. It's made it through Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Corkscrew, and rain storms with no issues. It's the accidently dropping it on a vacation in Florida that messed up the exterior of the camera a little.
I'd advise you to get a locker for Snake River Falls and Thunder Canyon though.

mk522 We as employees try everything possible to ensure a safe and fun ride for all of our guests, we can do everything in our power and guests will still try and find ways to pull out cameras. I really think you should reword saying that the "employees are at some fault".

Of course enforcing that policy is a problem, even if no one said anything about it. Everything pertaining to bringing loose articles on a ride that prohibits bringing loose articles on it is a problem. Some people do it without realizing that what they are doing could endanger themselves as well as people around them.

so you'd like me to say that all employess in the park are 100% enforcing the park policies and have never, ever, been at fault for allowing any single guest to break a single policy.
I just said that they are, (and, yes, believe it or not they are) at some fault, like it or not. The bigger problem is the guests, but to take the park out of the equation, as with the smoking policy, is just assinine.

It shouldn't matter. The policy is posted at the entrance of every ride and in the park guide. You shouldn't have to be told by an employee not to use your camera on a ride. Not to mention that, in my experience, 99% of the time when you ask a guest to put a camera away, they just take it out as soon as they hit the lift. Quite frankly, most guests are going to do whatever they want, no matter what you tell them.

Exactly. I can't tell you how many times I've told someone to put their camera away, only to have them pull it out again on the lift. Security was at my ride many times throughout the summer, but, it's because that's a policy that I have no tolerance on. If I tell you something for the safety of everyone around you, and you choose not to listen, I have no sympathy.

I was on Maverick one day in the second train an they just dispatched the train an the guy in the front seat on the train in front pulled out his camera so they stopped the ride an had to pull the trains back in the station and the guy got kicked off. I'm guessing when that happens they kick the person out of the park this was early in the day too.
I put my camera in a button-down cargo pocket along with 2 pairs of socks. It works really well.
People caught with cameras out while riding should get ejected. No excuses.

I say go back to the old policy of no loose articles permitted in any line. Weed out everything at the entrance like they do at Dragster and Millennium. Get rid of the bins and all that crap. People don't need to carry all the crap that I've seen them with. Make them put it in a locker or leave it in the car. I used to think the bins were a good idea, but now I couldn't be more opposed to them.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
