Cable Work?

When I was at the park tonight (9/18/03), there was a sign saying that MF would be closed for the night. There was another sign saying this was due to wind, but after taking a look at the ride, it looks like they may have been working on the cable. The sled was parked at the bottom of the hill, and it looked like there was some sort of bar across the top part of it. I figure that given the length of time the original cable lasted, they were about due to replace the current one. Anyone know more about this, or am I just reading too much into it?

Friday, September 18th, 2003 at 10:10 PM. It finally happened. Rollback on Dragster in the front seat of the gold train!

When I was there it was making this load noise, similar to what a steel coaster sounds like in RCT.

And it wasn't the trains hitting the anti rollbacks because even when the cable came down it made the same noise. It like banged itself down the hill.

I never saw it operating, but I did see a couple of guys doing something with a small crane about 40 feet up the lift. Any word on how it's doing today?

My friend who worked on MF earlier in the year said that they were ready for the current cable to go at any time this year, so perhaps, they are simply replacing it before it breaks again.

It seems odd to replace the cable on the first operating day after a whole week off though....

If I remember correctly, when the rope failed it took a whole week to clean up the mess, make repairs, and install the new rope. If they were replacing it, they might have just been finishing up work that they started back on Monday...

Just a thought. I don't know what they're up to. It's equally possible that they were doing needed maintenance work on the catch car or on the catch car track.

It opened mid-afternoon yesterday and ran all night. There was definitely some work going on with the cable earlier in the day, but it is fine now. Got a sweet ride on it last night about midnight! Have a good time next weekend.
It was a scheduled replacement of the cable. They were behind because of the rain during the week. Glad to see they got it up quickly though.
