bringing a backpack along? and walkie talkies

just wondering if anything has changed regarding bringing a backpack with a change of clothes/camera/towel into the park.

i have a non-riding friend and want to avoid any hassles upon entering the park, last i went (2002) it was fine but not sure if it's changed in the past year.

Also, i read the thread about walkie talkies being not-so-dependable on CP grounds. Should i avoid bringing them totally or try to rough it? They will be my only line to my boyfriend (who is the non-rider)

once again thanks to all who respond. You guys are a filled with CP knowledge!

When I was there last friday, we went with my school. Some people brought in their purses or backpacks and stored them in lockers. I think it would be fine for you to bring a back pack in.

For the walkie talkies, I think it may be different for everyone. I don't think it depends on where you use them at...it depends on what kind of walkie talkies you have. If I were you and I had a cell phone though, I would bring that instead. We used our cell a couple of times in the park and the calls were very clear.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

You can still bring things into the park. They have no problem with that at all. However they may search your bags before you go into the park. On opening day a guard searched my backpack and my girlfriends backpack, so it's not too bad at all.

When it comes to walkie talkies you may have mixed results. Other people can get on your frequency and you may have some interferance depending on how far away you are from eachother. *** Edited 5/18/2004 8:10:26 PM UTC by InclInE LoOpEr***

You'll have no promblems with bringing in back packs. But in my thread about cell phone reception, a couple people posted that walkie talkies worked horrible. But I guess it all depends on the quality of them, and of course, the metal at Cedar Point doesn't help the situation. From what people said, if you can, bring cell phones rather than walkie talkies.
It's not the qualitly of the TWO WAY RADIOS, but it's how many people use them. Every channel has almost 20 people on them. It's really a hassel when everyone tries to talk at the same time, or even a couple. Also, you have some idiots always screaming into them sometimes, little kids that don't know how to use them, and people constatly pushing the call button. However, cell phones work great. As long as you have a pocket where you aren't scared that they will come out. It is really helpful if you have two way on your cell phone. All calls are clear, and you really don't have to worry about other people coming on you channel. But, that's just my opinion.
do they allow fanny packs on the bigger rides (just a small one)?

or like your camera case attached on your belt?

really just wanting to know for TTD and Millie

yes they do allow fanny packs on the rides, my wife always wears ours with all our stuff in it. TTD and MF

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

If your going to bring a walkie talkie - make sure it has atleast 20 channels with some "privacy codes" for each channel. 14 Channel FRS radios wont do you very good because there will be idiots constantly hitting hte Call button or yelling into them for no apparent reason. With 20 channels + privacy codes for eachc hannel you may be lucky enough to find an empty or almsot empty one.
yeah but does any one know abouthe fanny packs for dure and the rules of bringing them on ttd and millie?
It gets especially annoying when your name is Mike, like me. Someone calls for me and about 10 people answer. LOL

Fanny packs are okay as long as you will fit under the restraints with them on and they have a clasp and are not just purses tied around someone's waist. (people actually try to get away with that)

We have never had trouble using FRS' at the park. I just scan and find a channel and pirvacy code that appears open and have worry free operation all day.

My family splits up and we can easily get in touch with each other throughout the day.

correct me if I'm wrong but in the park map(03) is said that CP wikll give you cell phones to keep in touch.

.

Honestly, if you bring walkie talkies, buy an awesome pair. I prefer using the really expensive ones only because they have extra channels not normally on FRS & GMRS radios. (Trust me, saving up for them works) But, If you buy the less expensive ones, you can kinda have a plan to make them work.

Try to stay on the upper channels. (like 10-22) Because some radios only have 9 channels

Use Keywords when talking. Maybe if trying to say your by the wildcat, and waiting for the other persons arrival, say:"Wildcat, awating arrival" I used that stuff and it worked really well.

Last, kinda get to know your buddies ending signal. (ex. Bloop beep beep) Reconizing voices is difficult, and that signal at the end tells you who you were talking to. (Just so you don't think your friend was going to Maggie when they were actually going to get in line for TTD)

I hope this helps!
