Breakers bonfire

Hi all... I was wondering if you needed to be a Breakers guest to enjoy the new firepit area? What times does it operate and has it been a success? Do they sell s'more supplies?

Thanks!!

No, you don't need to be a Breakers guest. It usually runs from like 6 or 7, until pretty late. Sometimes all day if it is cold out. No they don't sell S'mores supplies.

I thought it was an awesome spot to listen to live music and talk with friends. I really have to hand it to those involved in the renovations, as the beach area is 1000x better this year. They've changed it from a pitch black, unappealing area (when it's dark) to a lively place to either enjoy music or watch a movie as a way to unwind after a long day at the park.

What?! No s'mores?

It's a gas fire pit with a flame in the center of a large pile of lava rock. I'm sure they don't want marshmallow goo all up in there - plus, with the circular ones, the fire is pretty far away.

Not to mention, if it is a constant gas flame, you don't want to make s'mores on that kind of fire.

They should allow people to have smores. Maybe charge guests $1.00 to use one of their sticks or something. That way If they leave a mess, the hotel gets profit from it.

as pointed out above, cooking smores over that gas flame is gross.

Also, this is more of an adult area with a lounge and a Starbucks open very late.
No need to encourage children to hangout or fall in the pits.

Let's leave some of the areas to the adults please.

I think Shawn was making. a joke...

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

You're right Pete! I was actually. ;)

But in the newest interview that Walt posted today from the Sandusky Register roasting s'mores is listed as an activity on the beach!

Hey, you're never too old to make s'mores :)

I completely understand, and agree, with what you're saying. It's a nice place to unwind with good company after the park closes.

Haha, Shawn, don't be surprised if the park reads this and gets ideas on the s'mores thing! The park already separately charges people for the following:

- $5 for dinosaurs, $15 VIP seating for fireworks, $30 and up for fast lane and fast lane PLUS, (and I'm sure they will think of a fast lane plus PLUS), $5 and up for go karts, $10 for skyscraper, extra for ripcord, (I forget the price), challenge golf is extra, soak city is extra, (not including food/drinks) and just food/drink in the general park is extra. the admission alone keeps going up and up, then there's parking that keeps going up. 15 to park in a lot is outrageous.

So....as we know, we do not need anything else extra to pay for at the park :)

I'm so sorry, I just don't get this mindset. Cedar Fair is a business. Why are you so (seemingly) angry about a business operating like a business?

If you think $5 for dinosaurs or $10 for Skyscraper or $15 for VIP firework seating is outrageous, don't pay for dinosaurs, Skyscraper or VIP seating.

I'm happy to have Challenge Golf and Soak City cost extra. I have no interest in miniature golf or water parks. Let those that enjoy those things pay for them.

Of course "the admission alone" keeps going up and up; costs of business tend to increase. I suspect you are perfectly happy to have your salary keep going up and up....

The park then needs to go back to having separate prices for everything, like how it used to be, separate tickets for rides. This is also a benefit for people who may not be able to ride the big rides, like grandparents or just spectators with their families who may have a disability. Yes, they have discounts, but it is still alot. The park is beginning to feel like it's a place that wealthier higher income people can go to feel important. Amusement parks are places to relax and spend quality family/friends time with each other. Not for rich folks to splurge. CP is not Vegas.

I see no problem with their current business model. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. If you don't like it, don't go there.

So you are suggesting that every amusement/theme park everywhere do the same? Because when you start to compare, Cedar Point is a GREAT deal when you put it up against other parks admission prices, parking prices, upcharge attractions, etc.

Put me in the group that doesn't understand why Cedar Point is ripoff. Its a great deal for what you are getting with your paid ticket. Of course there are going to be other options that cost more, that is the case for a lot of parks/attractions across the world. Plus this isn't anything new, the park has been doing it since at least the 80s.

I have had many relaxing trips with family and friends to CP and other amusement parks, in my opinion the up charge items are well worth it. Being as many places are going to this type of system, I'd say there are a large number of people that agree with my view of it. On the flip side of this, if you don't want to pay the additional fees in order to participate in additional activities - simply don't do it. It is simple economics, the market will tell CP when they need to stop raising prices or adding additional fee based activities and items. The park is a much more fun, and lively place today than it was 10 years ago under different leadership.

The park may be expensive but what I mangage to get out of my family's season passes over the course of a season I think is a great value. We were at the park 20 times last year. I haven't done the math this year for platinum but last year I think by the time I averaged things out and added my $20 in gas for the trip each of our visits was maybe the same as taking the family to a movie and buying popcorn or going to the mall, buying a bit of crap or going out to eat at a nice restaraunt. A movie lasts an hour and a half. We can stay at the park for 12 hours on a normal summer day if we choose to. We aren't poor but we certainly aren't raking in the money. I can get a lot of entertainment out of our passes and a cooler over the course of the summer. Just because the park charges extra for something doesn't mean I actually want or need it. We have plenty of fun without the VIP stuff.

Bingo! Just because they charge extra for something doesn't mean you actually need to do it. Sure they charged extra for VIP fireworks viewing, but you didn't need to pay it in order to see the fireworks. The option for Fastlane is there but you don't need it in order to ride coasters. A lot of people fail to understand they don't need those extras to have a good time. Just about every experience at an amusement park, theater, sporting event, museum, etc has some kind of "extra" or "VIP" style upgrade and its been happening for a long time. However that doesn't stop the millions of people who experience the fun of those places each day of the year.
