Brakes

While getting my numerous rides on wicked twister these past few days (seat 8-4 yay!) I noticed something different about the ride...

While coming back into the station, it sounds like something is hitting something else..it may jus be te fins and the LIMS wth an incrrect clearance...who knows...but when the brakes come down, it is EXTREMELY apparent and rather than the usual coasting to a stop, you are loudly, somewhat hasrshly stopped. I guess my question goes out to any current or ex employee...Is this normal? something new? something that needs to get checked out? Just wondering and mainly wanted to give any current ride ops the heads-up

Hi

Well Iam was a Cedar Point Supervisor last season and I just visited the park also. I do have to agree with you on that matter. I kinda noticed something but thought it was just me. But if you are also noticing something well there might be a problem.

Complain about it to Park Op or something. If you get enough people complaining about it, they might do something.

The last time I rode it, I thought it sounded ok. *** Edited 7/19/2004 2:41:58 AM UTC by Ben Englund***

Yesterday, something near the back of the train was most definitely colliding with something, not only in the brakes, but also during the reverse "power stroke" something was hitting (I think) the fin guide forward of the last LIM. I do know it was making a lot of clanking and banging noises.

It was easiest to hear by standing on the midway down near the end of the launch track; everything was nice and 'quiet' in the station.

Thats the one i was talking about Rideman....glad I am not the only one noticing it.... Dunno if anyone reading this can do anything about it or not, and I would feel like a raving lunatic if I was to mention it to someone at the park. Granted, I have an idea what i am talking about, but they probably either wouldn't think the same thing, or they would say"We'll look into it" and that would be the end of it. It needs to get fixed it is definately afecting the ride quality...

Any current Wicked Twister Ops reading these posts wanna comment?

What kind of Supervisor were you Mater B?
You'd be surprised at how precise that ride is, and that's not a bad thing either. I'm sure it's just a small adjustment they have to make. It also, most likely, isn't something that is a safety issue. But seriously, though, the more of you guys that complain to the ride ops, the more we are inclined to write it down on night maintainance... I still talk like a ride op even though I'm not anymore lol.

In any case, seriously, talk to them, more people they have complain, the more inclined they are to tell someone or have management come over and see if they can hear what you're talking about.

Well it could be a big deal what would happen if the fin got stuck and heared off of the train only to come down and hit a rider in the face while the train was traveling foward? I think they should fix it too. But if it is just nothing then it is fine. I hope im not insane by noticing it.

I noticed a bit more banging when the brakes come on, the ride always had a little of that banging though. On the reverse power stroke I also heard something a little strange. Sort of like a chime like sound that was a "ting".

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

It's probably nothing serious. I'm sure maintenance would have picked it up and fixed it by now if it was a threat to the ride's operation and, most important, a threat to the safety of the riders. *** Edited 7/22/2004 9:46:28 PM UTC by S2Kster***

Believe me, if the fins were to be even CLOSE to "sheering off" they'd sound much much worse than what they already do. Also if the fin DID "sheer off" it's encased in the LIMS for a good portion of the track and would just probably mess something else up there.

The FINS where hitting really bad last season. I reameber standing at Load One and hearing them... It is really nothing to worry about... you take a piece of medal and put it through something at 72 mph, with a gap of MAYBE one to two centimeters... and see if you ever hit.... I mean it really is nothing to worry about... Like ben said... it would sound much worse, if it was like hitting them, they are just brushing them right now
