Original ride sound effects (Pirate Ride, Earthquake, Schwabinchen, CP/LE RR, PWE, etc.) were on reel to reel recordings and the park decided to scrap them and replace them with new material back in 2001 if I'm not mistaken. Alot of what the park owned were from rides that were defunct or they weren't interested in the material any longer.I know someone that converted the reel to reel sound effects over to a CD format which I do currently own. It has a lot of cool stuff including the old PWE sound bites, etc. Yes, good times...
Oh, my is it the fellow who used a tape recorder on Earthquake while riding?
Well, I know things change but I don't think parks should underestimate the nostalgia factor that plays a big part in why parents bring their kids back to the parks. It's nice to have the old touches here and there, it would be nice to have some of the old time music back that evokes those memories to share with one's children.
I sure hope they got new speakers this year, the sound was so terrible coming out, like they were blown, specifically on the other side of Iron Dragon going toward Gemini.
It would be nice if they would play more nostalgic music period. Sometimes the pop music they play is so jarring, at least easier sounding pop music would be better for walking around the park. Sometimes it sounds like a dance floor or a headbanger's concert. Just too in your face, or rather in your ears.

Rode the train today. Some of the parts could use some fixing up like the house where the guy is getting shot while humping the fence.
Fixed that for you.
