Jeff i thought you said that this year Cedar Point would be constructing a boardwalk. Or you were strongly hinting the ywere gonna build a boardwalk. What happened?

There will be a pier at the new LIGHTHOUSE POINT. If that counts. Check it out in the news section here or at http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com

Why would you go there when you're already on a Cedar Point site? There is a news section here, you know.

Be patient... there's no point in having waterfront development unless you have something to draw people there.

I dont know really if a boardwalk would atract that many new people, with SFO and SFMM starting to grow and become more populair CP will prob save up for something bigger and more important, like the floorless rumor flying around.
First of all, SFO is nowhere near CP-calibur. That's pretty much the general feeling among, well, everyone.

As for SFMM, I really don't think CP is competing with them to begin with. Not directly, anyhow. Good lord, SFMM is in Cali. The majority of people in this country don't travel from Ohio to California just to ride a coaster. Granted, some do, but enthusiasts aren't really CP's target audience.

And lastly, in my opinion, screw the floorless! Put in a good CCI along the boardwalk. A fantastic woodie is "more important" than a floorless, if you ask me, and it doesn't/shouldn't be "bigger". (Even though, yes, another looper would be nice.)

CP won't get a floorless, I had a good feeling they were going to get one but with SFO getting why would CP bother putting one in.

I agree. SFO has a very good floorless. Why would CP just follow?...unless it is a launched one. I have a feeling that we are in for something big for 2002...ride-wise.
Floorless Shmoorless - I went on Medusa at SFMW in Vallejo recently, and to be honest, i don't understand what all the fuss is about. I didn't get any feeling of being more in the open, especially since you're sitting 4 across and harnessed in. I rode Roar most of the day. That's what CP should shoot for.
As for SFMM, i'm in the minority in that I DO travel to Ohio from LA to ride. In fact, i still consider CP my home park!
Here's a question: do you feel safer when a park checks for weapons? (SFMM) or does not (CP).

I agree that the floorless concept really isn't that much. When riding Batman - Night Flight, it feels just like a sit down looper in anything but the front seat.

To answer the weapons question, I feel safer at CP. CP has a real police force, not just security guards. That, IMHO, is much better than any metal detector.
I would be disappointed if CP got a plain old floorless. If it was launched like the Hulk, however, that would be a world class floorless! Overall, I would rather see a new CCI at the point before I see a floorless.
Actually I feel rather less safe at a park with metal detectors at the gate. Rather than provide security support sufficient to protect guests against unpleasant intentions, some parks (hello Six Flags Chicago) prefer to harass all enterting guests. From a cost standpoint, I suppose it is cheaper to buy metal detectors and pay a handful of rent-a-guards to operate them than it is to hire and support a police detail... but I feel safer knowing that X% of the park's security detail isn't concentrated at the entrance. Sorry. Rambled on.
Okay.. to adress back to the subject. No one ever said that the "boardwalk" wouldn't include a coaster!
As for the safety the Metal ditectors jsut send off a red flare that there have been problems here before so we had to put these up. Altought I think it is SF policy to have them seeing as all the ones I have visited do. CP's atmoshphere also makes it more safe, on a pennisula "isolated" from the world and reality for that matter, not crammed into a city or the woods of an existing one.

If there was a board walk prodject, you would not think they would put in a floorless. Even though possible, a CCI woodie would fit nicely next to the beach along with some up to date flat rides. A boardwalk would be the perfect addition to Cedar Point. If you have the natural resource of a beautiful lake, you might as well use it!
Truthfully I think some type of check should be done at the gate. Sure the police can stop a problem but they can't prevent it from happening. Whos to stop someone from pulling out a gun right in the middle of the park, or placing a bomb or osmething in the park??? This one has really got me thinking... We should be worried, there are some freaks out their.
I'd like to see a flying coaster. So far there is only one (that I know of) in Calif. so one in the midwest would be great :)
