blue streak life span

how many more years do you think it has left? with cyclone at coney island gone, blue streak at coneaut being on its last legs, how much time do you think it has left?

and theoretically what would you want to see in its place?

i love the ride and would love to see something similar put in its place, when / if it dies. something of a tribute and not a record breaker. the smaller woodies are so much better to ride imo. like predator @ darien lake, whatever the one at woa is called or thunderbolt at kennywood. fast fun and no migrane.

cant wait to ride blue steak when im there tommorow!

Blue Streak is a baby by woodie standards. There's nothing wrong with it and as long as it's maintained it will last decades more.

when was it built? they do keep good care of it, and have the money to keep doing so. unlike some other parks and their classics.
1964 -- two years before i made my first trip to CP

If you haven't already, check out the History section of GTTP.

Blue Streak was built in 1964, and Blue Streak has many more years ahead of it. They take great care of it, its one of m favorite woodies.

never noticed the history section.

i remember waiting a long long time for avalanche run.... i think thats my first solid memory of cedar point. that and thinking that the mine ride was the roughest ride in existance.

Blue Streak could be there a good long time, if Cedar Point so chose. There are coasters FAR older than it that are still running perfectl well (the Kennywoodies, the Cyclone at Astroland, Leap-The-Dips at Lakemont, and MANY others)

There's no set "lifespan" as long as the ride is maintained.

The Big Dipper over at SFWoA was built in the 20's if memory serves (not that I was around back then).

Blue Streak will be a fixture for many decades to come.

i didnt realize the streak was so "young".

i was just reading up on the the kennywood coasters. (i live in pittsburgh) i still havent found a wooden coaster that tops the thunderbolt's first section. other rides have attempted to do similar things, but nothing can compare getting zipped around those curves like that.

I sure hope Blue Streak stays around for a while, it is running INSANE this year. It blows my mind how well this thing runs.
It almost makes me think. What would Cedar Point be like without a spin on Blue Streak? I love this ride and can't see anything in its place.

Blue Streak isn't going anywhere. Even though it is not high by present standards, it is very much a signature ride at CP IMHO.

Also, I remember a CP official commenting on Blue Streak after he was asked a similar question. I think it was at Coaster Mania a good number of years ago, and the person may have been Lee Jewitt, though I don't exactly remember. But, the answer was "Blue Streak will be here forever".

Isn't the cyclone still there? It's in Astroland.

Yeah, it was the Thunderbolt that was recently torn down at Coney Island. The ride hadn't operated in years, and finally the City declared it "structurally unsound" and condemned it.

Then they sent in the wrecking crew. They had an extremely difficult time pulling down a ride that had been declared "structurally unsound".

It would be cool if they did Blue Streak like they did JudgeRoy Scream at Six Flags-Texas. Put the train on backwards..... there is nothing (IMO) like riding a coaster backwards!! I don't know why they changed it back at Six Flags, but that week of Spring Break (several years ago) was a blast on that ride!
As you can see on the Mean Streak as well as the Gemini and Mine Ride, that wood can and will be replaced periodically as needed. Plus, C.P. has the money and resources to keep this ride going indefinitely. Lack of maintenance and neglect are what will ruin a coaster, particularly a wooden one!
Do you think that next year will be a bigger deal than Gemini this year, with Blue Streak being 40 and all?

I haven't ridden the coaster since my trip in May of 1997, but I have no desire at all to ever get on the ride again. But when it comes to the thought of it leaving the park, I really would be sad. Maybe because I like the large diversity of roller coasters the park has to offer, and if they take Blue Streak out, they will lose alot of airtime.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

last year lightning struck it about 100 feet from where i was standing... it was in late july i believe and some very nasty storms were rolling through. i was standing by it, and they were closing down the park. And just seen an extremely bright flash, and bang at the exact same time. and smoke, and sparks flew everywhere. im almost positive it hit blue streak, or something extremely close to it, i was looking at something else in the direction, so i didnt see where it actually hit. it was on the back side towards parking though. scared the ever living crap out of me though, and the air smelled like electricity does. Just thought i would share, this thread brought back memories...
sat in the middle of the train this time, didnt get as much airtime as usual. i would have ridden it again but i was whooped from the wicked twister and raptor.

still a great ride, love that coaster. much better than the current state of mean streak.
