Blowing Sand

Looking at the dreary webcam pics today, I am reminded of some of those blustery days on the peninsula. While I know that the sand can be irritating to the guests waiting in line, I am curious to know how sand might affect the operation of the ride.

I don't know much about this ride system but could the sand, so close to the ride, be a problem?

You know, in all the years I've been going to CP, I've never been there on a day when sand was an issue. I've walked along the sidewalk from SandCastle Suites to Soak City during very windy conditions, but was never stung by sand.

At any rate, isn't the beach side protected by the wall of the control/electrical room?? If so, then the only damage I could see would be to the paint on the exposed portions of the lower supports.

I'm not sure if sand can do much damage to the ride. I know it might be a bit inconvenient to people riding if some blowing sand was around. I have gotten sand in my eyes on GW before. I saw it come flying up off the beach. Ouch!

Well, I doubt the sand will do much harm to the ride, but I've walked the boardwalk in front of the Breakers on a stormy day and have had plenty of sand blown in my face. A strong NE to NW wind might make riding a little on the uncomfortable side.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Would it have any effect on the ride's paint job and therefore potential to rust? I'm not a paint expert at all, but I would think a couple good windstorms would be like sandblasting the paint right off the structure.

Who's afraid of the big bad... sea gull?

Hopefully the sand isn't blowing that powerfully. When I was walking on the beach (exact WT site prior to any knowledge of WT) the sand was terrible, nonetheless I have never seen it so wild any other day in my life. Let's hope it's an uncommon thing. (The picture looks like I'm swimming in a sea of sand, quite interesting.)

I would truly hope that the folks that built this 9 million dollar investment, would take the sand into consideration before they placed it on the beach.

Regardless, I think the workers would be able to say whether it is truly a problem since they have been on the site for well over 4 months...

Magnum will always be #1

if sand were really a problem, wouldn't you think magnum would've be shut down a time or two over all those years?

Fear the Mullet!

We've had rides on the beach before...

I wasn't trying to be critical. I was just curious. From appearances, it looks like the Magnum station is much higher off the ground and it isn't "on the beach" like WT is.

I wasn't even thinking about the paint so much as the brakes.

Speaking of the pool and sand, the pool has been filled with water (this happened on the 23). Just to let you guys know. :)
