best route from lafayette indiana

What is the best route from Lafayette, Indiana. I have a good route, just wanted to see if anyone had a better route which could save me and others time.

I can make it from 4.5 - 5.5 hours depending on traffic.

Please post if you have a quicker route.

The way I am going to use (for the most part) is to follow 24 all the way to US 6 and take that all the way over. I don't like paying tolls, even if it would shave a few minutes off the trip. Using the toll road would take around 5 1/2 hours according to mapquest.

Will Foamy become the next Strong Bad? I guess we will find out...

Caution: Foamy isn't quite as "PC" as Strong Bad.

When you get in Roanoke, turn right at the light onto Lafayette Center Rd, I would guess even if you got stuck by a train you'd shave a few minutes off of following 24 since this road will turn into 469 past the GM plant @ I-69 and take you around the south side of Ft Wayne.(I am not quite local to that area, so not sure if there is any construction or anything on that short stretch, but i doubt it)

This is only a short cut only if 24 is your intended route,if goin north on I-69 it wont work well really.

24 to 6 is teh fastest way from Ft. Wayne so I would think it would be the fastest way from Lafayette. The turnpike is way to far north and then comes back down south. And definitely take Whoever's Shortcut.

Thats right Virginia, I am Santa Claus.

It's not called Lafayette Center Road outside Allen County (i.e. when it hits US24). I believe it's county road 900N in Roanoke. There's a light for it. There's no construction or anything, but the speed limit being 45 is slightly annoying. It should save you 10 minutes or so by avoiding the traffic in Aboite. Mapquest map here.

Going home to Fort Wayne from Purdue I'll take SR26-I69 sometimes. 26 is a 2 lane road but it's a whole lot less policed than 24. And 24 is so boring... Time wise, not too different I guess. I'd guess total drive would be about 5-5.5 hours. I've rarely made it to fort wayne in less than 2.5, and it's nearly exactly 3 from ft wayne to sandusky.

I really don’t know why they don’t just reroute 24 onto Lafayette Center Road, as 469 is also 24 to go to the exit by the shopping center, then back down two exits back to LCR/469 makes no real since. They have rerouted all the roads correctly here in Indy, I just don’t understand IDOTS, screw up in routing all the numbered roads out of FT Wayne. Of course, I really don’t understand the decision to remove every State and US highway from Indianapolis and Ft Wayne. Is Indianapolis now, the only state capital without a single US highway passing thru downtown?

And the real problem spot on the entire route is 24 from 496 to Defiance, two lanes, winding and , lots of trucks, along the Maumee, only God knows, why when it could have just as easlily have gone cross country on flat fields a quarter mile south. This is why when i go home to Michigan i go two exits farther and take Ind. 37 wich becomes good old Ohio 2, in Hicksville.

Is this called Lafayette Center Road or County Road 900 N? Is this the only stoplight in the city of Roanoke, so I will know when to turn, or are there more than one light?

Thanks, that looks like a good shortcut.

Once again, is this called Lafayette center road or CR 900 N? Is this the only stoplight in Roanoke, any help would be Awesome, Thanks. When you are driving for 5-6 hours a 10 minute break helps.

Gregdawg,

I lived in Lafayette, Indiana back in the early 70's. Somewhere around 1973 or '74 our house was hit by a tornado. It was the only house hit as it touched down right on our roof, tore it off, and placed in in the neighbor's yard...on top of their above ground pool.

Good times.
