Since MF will be the second tallest structure on the peninsula, will the top of the lift require a beacon light, as there is one atop Power Tower and Space Spiral?

Seems like it should have one - that would be a creepy feeling climbing the hill at night, cresting at the top, looking to the left, and saying to your uninformed ride partner, "oh-that's so airplanes won't hit us" *grin*
I say put in for atmosphere alone, if not safety!!

Cedar Point? si!

I have learned that the lighting on that thing is going to be amazing... stay tuned.

The PT lighting will pale in comparison, or so I hear.

Is there beacon lights on the support towers now? It would seem to me that there should be, since it is at the 300' level. Can't tell from the pics, but has anyone seen this from Sandusky?
Jeff - Do you know any details on the lighting effect? Or is this one of those surprises that they have up their sleeves?

Just promise us that you will post some pictures of it at night because when I go, I won't be able to stay that late.
Just a quick idea. Instead of the beacon light could they have a giant spotlight(similair to the one on top of luxor)? Would that work? That would be really awesome to see this bright light from the top instead of a flashing little dot!
I don't know the specifics, and I don't think they do either. However, I have been assured that it will be "just as good as the ride."
Regarding beacons, the FAA is pretty particular about that sort of thing, down to the frequency the light has to blink.

Although I like you idea petree, dont think it would be right to copy off the Luxor! That is there signature thing, and although as much as I like the beam shooting into the vegas night, I wouldnt like to see any one copy that!

Has anyone else thought that the supports would be the perfect place to drape a huge banner from? Just mind woundering I know it's to tall.

That would be cool but I think that the wind from the lake might whip it violently and tear it off of the supports.

Putting a huge banner on something like that would cause an effect simular to a sail boat. This would cause the wind to be able to push on the structure itself, could cause structural damage.

I think the beacon light atop thise mammoth rides are in direct relation to the aviation rules regarding planes and such.. I think the law states that if your "structure" is over a certain height a beacon light must be atop to make this structure visible to all near air traffic.. This is what I understand to be true..

The FAA sets the rules (which are not technically "laws," but I dare anyone to try and contest them). When I was still working in radio, one of the stations I worked at had a copy of the specifications regarding beacons in its transmitter operating manual. Of course, they probably have changed, but given the air traffic to and from the islands, I'm sure they will have to put something on the new ride.

Ya know what would be sweet? If it had strobies going at the bottom of the drop at night like on the Raptor's Cobra roll! That would be(Cartman voice)schweet!

Thank you for riding the Raptor and enjoy your day here at Cedar Point, America's Rollercoast!
you mean like Magnum going up the Hill? I am guessing some pilots thought that was a airport and well, you know. Though this was not really an idea they could make a screen banner similar to a screened window on your house.

I'd love it if at night the only light operating on the MF would be the beacon. Nothing at the bottom there. Just a pitch black drop. That'd be so cool.
