Beach Activities

Can someone clarify what exactly goes on at the beach at night? Do they have fire pits? How late do things run? We are looking at coming in early June when the park closes at 8pm. If there is stuff to do at the beach a little later, it makes staying on property an easier sell for us... Thanks!

Early in June there are typically no beach activities at night, those start with CP Nights which is starting later this year.

There are fire pits near the Surf Lounge that are on at dark and typically stay on very late. It’s a nice social gathering place for people looking for something to do, Surf Lounge typically stays open late and TGIFridays was closing earlier last year. The pools typically should stay open until 11pm, but that sometimes is limited to just the small indoor pool and 11pm means 11pm there will be an anxious overzealous employee there about 10:40 (they briefly switched to 9pm pool closings in 2014 when there were still lifeguards ).

I put typically, because these are all subject to change. They have been pretty consistent over the last few years, however if the park is in cost-cutting mode again (as it appears) expect changes.

Ok so the fire pits aren’t on the beach per se, but around the back side of Breakers? I think I remember that now based on my only stroll down the boardwalk. Are they considered part of Surf Lounge? If so probably not so kid friendly.

The “no campfires” makes the early closing times a tough sell to camp at Lighthouse Point. Even 10pm closings are doable since it’s late enough that we don’t really miss a campfire...

Buy a raised firepit. The one I bought just to take to Lighthouse Point cost me $65. The rule isn't "no campfires", it's no groundfires. Your allowed to burn wood. Haven't been up there for an early close though. So don't use it a whole lot during our stays.

^^ Correct, but there are in fact fire pits on the beach itself during CP Nights, at least there has been the past couple years. Like XS said...who knows what's in store for this upcoming year.

I’ve had that thought of buying a fire pit. They even make collapsible ones to carry. Just one more thing to haul... Guessing they aren’t too strict about firewood being brought in. Camp Sandusky is VERY strict about it.

I just saw in the first webcam, on the beach by windseeker, new dirt or stone erosion control piers. If that's what they are, this is a good move considering how high lake levels are getting.
