Bay Harbor or Boathouse Restaurant?

Greetings! I am heading up to the Point the latter part of the week and am intending on eating one of the nights at either the Bay Harbor Restaurant or the Boathouse Restaurant. I have just a few questions: (1) What is the price range of each?; (2) Do I need reservations at either?; (3) Do I need to be dressed up? Any other information anybody could offer (such as what to order and what is the best time to go) would be great as well! Thanks.

1. Boathouse is about the same range as the sitdowns in the park. Just a bit cheaper, 10-20. Bay Harbor is more expensive with a full dinner, appetizer, soup or salad, entree, and desert, for one going for as much as $40, possibly more, I spent 30 on a cheap full dinner.

2. Reservations are not required at boathouse to my knowledge, but they are at Bay Harbor, walk up reservations are possible.

3. Boathouse is no more than a standard steak house, except with some special CP things, while Bay Harbor is more, "classy." However, dressing up is not required for either, I enjoyed my dinner in shorts and a t-shirt.

Bay Harbor is by far the better resturaunt as far as food is concerned, tasty and filling, while Boathouse is better for those of us who are on a strict budget, good cheap food. As far as times, I have yet to see Boathouse full, Bay Harbor on the other hand seems to be a favorite for the folks who own the larger boats in the marina and usually has a waiting list for dinner, I waited about an hour for a seat.

Well, it depends on what you are after...Both spots will offer you a pleasant respite from the park. You will find alot of dock holders eating in each location. Unlike "in park" locations the crowd is not in a hurry to rush back to the park.

Bay HArbor Inn is by far the better of the two spots...it may be the best restaurant in Erie County. If you want a WONDERFUL meal in a Relaxing location with a great view of the Bay...Don't miss BHI...as for reservations...I don't think ANY are taken...Your best bet is to call ahead and find out for sure. Worst case you go to BHI and put your name in, and then have to have a drink in the lounge! Best times to go seem to be right around 4:30/5:00 (i believe they start seating at 5) or after 8:30p.m.

The Boathouse offers a nice change of pace also, with Chicken and ribs as a highlight (Montgomery Inn from CIncy) great sauce! It is cheaper and a little less crowded. The boathouse is more along the lines of an Applebee's or Macaroni Grill.

Heck why not compare and contrast the two yourself...One night at each!...I am sure you will have a great meal.

I reccomend the Boathouse, it's a good, fun, cheap place to eat.
Ok, this is the 3rd time I 've tried to get this on, so if it's in here 3 times, I apologize!

Bay Harbor is my favorite restaurant-anywhere! I always call one or two days ahead for a reservation.I usually make our reservation for 5:30 or 6. I've never gone there without a reservation, so I don't know how long the wait is regarding that. The bar opens at 4 and seating for dinner begins at 5. The last time I dined there in July, with my 9 yr old daughter, our bill was $50--that included a child entree, an adult entree, pop, 2 frozen alcoholic drinks, dessert, and the tip. There's a coupon in the CP getaway guide for $5.00 off two adult entrees. You can also redeem your parking ticket and they will reimburse you the $8.00 fee. Check the back of the ticket for all the shops/restaurants that participate. It's a very relaxing, casual atmosphere. They just don't allow cut-off shorts or tank tops.

I love their Seafood Chablis, Seafood Alfredo, Lobster and Crab Linguine, and I don't know the name but it's a boneless chicken breast stuffed with crabmeat and smothered in 3 or 4 cheeses. I'm getting hungry!!!!! Their french onion soup is the best I have ever had and their specialty salad (for some extra $) is really good. It has baby greens, sliced strawberries, mandarin oranges, shrimp, freshly grated parmesan, coconut, and their secret dressing.

Take your time and enjoy! I don't eat beef so I cannot comment on any of those entrees. I have eaten at the Boathouse, but I prefer the Bay Harbor. The staff is very laid-back and they never rush you through your meal. The view is beautiful! Now I can't wait to go back there in October!

See what type of mood you are in when you want to eat. Perhaps you want the more casual Boathouse atmosphere, or a nice Bay Harbor meal.
