Barefoot on water rides?

We've been to Michigan's Adventure, Canada's Wonderland and King's Island so far this year and have been told that footwear must be worn on all rides, including the water rides (not water park). Raptor, Thunderhawk, Windseeker, etc. being exceptions.

Last year we did Snake River Falls and Thunder Canyon barefoot. Does anyone know if this is still possible or has Cedar Fair made a "no barefoot" policy across all of the parks?

I can answer my own question. Per the 2011 Rider Safety Guide:

"Shoes
may be removed before riding Chaos, maXair, Raptor,
Power Tower, Skyhawk, Wave Swinger, Thunder
Canyon, Shoot the Rapids, Snake River Falls, Skyscraper,
Wicked Twister or WindSeeker."

Part of Frontier Town is a no-shoe zone, too. The water rides at CP, as a result, allow you to go barefoot.

By Thunder Canyon they have a Shoe holder thing that you can put your shoes in while your riding it.

Verified: I rod all three barefoot yesterday. And a few weeks ago, I had to wear shoes on Kings Island's rapids ride.

One word of warning, though: the Snake River Falls exit deck can be rough on the feet.

I had a pretty embarrassing experience with shoes & water rides at Kings Island. My family and I went on the Wild Thornberry's River Adventure Log Flume; I really didn't want to get my brand new Nike shoes ruined. Not knowing my shoes had to be on during the ride, I took them off on the lift. The whole ride stopped and one of the ride hosts kindly explained to me that the shoes gotta stay on. People were mad that the whole ride stopped because of me.

The snake river falls exit deck does hurt your feet pretty good, a tip I figured out that helps some is to walk side ways and it doesn't hurt as much ( at least for me)

I WILL ALWAYS KICK THE SKY.

Do be warned that if you ever go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, shoes *are* required for Escape from Pompeii. Also note that the lockers where one might store their shoes before getting in line is a good hike around the large pond, and you'll waste both time and money wandering back to get them. :) Also, enjoy walking around in wet socks afterward.

Escape from Pompeii isn't too bad because you can tuck your feet under the seats in front of you or to front of the boat if in the front. Roman Rapids is the one you need to watch out for.

I just go up to the hotel room, put on swim clothes and water shoes and head back into the park to ride the water rides.

Everyone looks at me funny in Soak City because my water shoes actually look like shoes, i have stubbed my toes and scraped the hell out of my feet too many times on the Renegade River, so water shoes all the time in there for me! That SRF bridge does hurt like hell in bare feet! Or trying to walk on the beach on a hot day, i cannot stand that kind of pain!

+1 on the water shoes, which I'll be getting before my next Soak City trip. Anyone else made the mistake of walking barefoot over to the "infield" area of Main Stream? I love that it's a relatively secluded, quiet area, but damn that sand (or whatever) is hot!

The one thing about the topic: I don't think I'd want to walk around barefoot too much in CP. Maybe it's just me being a bit paranoid or worried about germs, but I think I'd want to at least have some flip flops on for the water rides.

I was always under the impression that footwear of any kind was not permitted on most attractions at Soak City? I guess it's sad that I don't know for sure, considering I spent several hours working slide tops in 08.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

When we got on thunder canyon we took our shoes off and put them in the center of the boat.

So long as you keep your feet away from your orifices (where germs would find their way into your body), you should be fine.

Warning to those leaving their shoes in the Thunder Canyon buckets. My sister in law had her shoes stolen from there, they were not any kind of expensive shoes or anything so someone must have just wanted a differnt pair for the day. The funny part was that she had to walk out to the car to get a pair of flip flops to wear the rest of the day, and this must have been the day when security was out in full force looking for everything because she was told by just about every CP Police officer to put her shoes on.

Why did they decide to use cat litter for that beach area instead of some of the beautiful Lake Erie beach sand? I've wondered about that since Soak City opened.

I know for sure that they are not allowed on the water slides.

According to Soak City Policy:

  • No aqua sox or water shoes on the slides - bare feet only.
  • water shoes/aqua socks are dorky anyway :)
