When you get to Kingda Ka, make sure you post your thoughts in the TTD forum. I'm always interested to see what people think of the two.
Trying to get back on topic :), were the original color scheme of Banshee supposed to be black and silver? I heard (i forgot where from) that Raptor was supposed to be the colors of Mantis and Mantis was supposed to be the colors of Raptor. Not too sure if I beleive it but it's what I heard. Also in the ebay link, it says that it was made to have the wail of a banshee.

See what I mean? Cognitively, instinctively, there is a bar in our minds for what makes a coaster. For some like e x i t, the bar may be lower, and for others like djDaemon, it's higher.
Actually, I like my bars at about the same height. Just high enough to pull a stool up to and have a beer, or 6 ;).
Early last season I was riding Mantis when the park was empty. Obviously one of the Ride Ops was a CP history buff because during his speal he kept on refering to the ride as Banchee. I thought it was great and those that heard him were very cofused.

I doubt it. No ride was ever going to be named Banchee. So either he's a poor history buff, or your spelling is off.

Great. Bar jokes. Try to have one intelligent conversation on this forum and look what happens. :)

Nah, if that was the case, I would have sworn that it was a 500 ft, 2 mile long, 15 inversion bar with a water splashdown that would be announced on august 30th.
What, that wasn't you? :)
Here's a speculation just for fun. CP works on the basis of five-year plans. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but MF was the first Intamin at the park. That was in 2000.
CP had to have been awfully jazzed about the performance of that coaster. (Who isn't?) So they incorporated Intamin coasters into their future plans. And when WT came along, that continued the love affair.
But along comes 2003 and TTD was a performance and marketing disaster. Serious problems continued into last year, although this season seems substantially better.
At the end of 2003, then, CP might have been second-guessing their future relationship with Intamin. However, by that juncture Project 2007, a.k.a. Maverick, would already have been in design and development. Too late to back down then in mid-project, without seriously jeopardizing their relationship with one of the largest and most forward-thinking design firms in the business. (Keep in mind, CF in 2003 only had 6 parks, a pale shadow of its current might in the industry.)
But... that wouldn't deter them from planning to go a different way, after their obligations with Intamin were met. Which suggests that Project 2007, or possibly 2008 at the latest, will be the last Intamin coaster at CP for a while. In fact, I bet the next coaster after Maverick will be a woodie by Gravity Group or the like, and it's already in blueprints.
In fact, I'll go further out on this limb I've built and say it will be built in the front of the park, where DD stands now, plus some space from picnic shelters and near DT.
All just speculation, mind you. Sorry, I did't have any bar jokes. ;)

Jr. Gemini was the first Intamin, followed by Avalanche Run, er-Disaster Transport. ;)
I would hope for a Gravity Group type woodie, but after riding the (amazing) Voyage, it seems to be spread out, a lot. Is Hades the same way?
(I'm pretty sure, but Hades is also by the Gravity Group isn't it?)
While I would hope for one, it seems that The Voyage and El Toro are both recieving a lot of praise this year. Something tells me they'll side with the "ultra-smooth" Intamin, mainly thinking of how people complain about Mean Streak.
I really don't know exactly what I'm talking about, but I'm just trying to apply some thought to what they would do.
Please though, don't start discussing the Voyage again, we did that a week or two ago everybody.
Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~
Back to the Banchee. The story I heard was that CP was aware of the connotation and we unsure of the name, so they let it "leak" out and waited for a public response. The problem with that theory is, obviously, the t-shirts, pins, etc.
don't forget that thunder canyon was an intamin. And supposedly space spiral was built by a company that became/was bought by intamin
Demon Drop 2004
Castaway Bay Lifeguard 04-05
That division of the company may have been sold, but Von Roll Ltd. itself is still very much an active company:
